John 8:1-11 (NIV)1 But Jesus went to the Mount of

Olives. 2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the

people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them.

John 8:1-11 (NIV)3 The teachers of the law and the

Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand

before the group 4 and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in

the act of adultery.

John 8:1-11 (NIV)5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground

with his finger.

John 8:1-11 (NIV)7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." 8 Again he stooped down and

wrote on the ground.

John 8:1-11 (NIV)9 At this, those who heard began to go

away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the

woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her,

"Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"

John 8:1-11 (NIV)11 "No one, sir," she said. "Then

neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life

of sin."

1. Encouraging well is expressed in the Trinity.

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NIV)16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself

and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal

encouragement and good hope, 17

encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed

and word.

John 14:16 (CEV)16 Then I will ask the Father to send you the Holy Spirit who will help (the

word for help in the Greek may mean, comfort, encourage, or

defend) you and always be with you.

2. Encouraging well is a main theme of the Bible.

Romans 15:4-5 (NIV)4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so

that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we

might have hope.

Romans 15:4-5 (NIV)5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit

of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus,

2 Timothy 4:2 (NIV)2 Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction.

3. Encouraging well is something everyone of us should be doing.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV)3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of

compassion and the God of all comfort (encouragement),

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV)4 who comforts (encourages) us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort (encourage) those in any trouble with

the comfort (encouragement) we ourselves have received from God.
