THE VOICE OF CHOICE A MESSAGE FROM JANET ABRAHAMS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF HABC Thank you for joining us on May 11, 2019, as the Housing Authority of Baltimore City (HABC) along with the City of Baltimore, Resident Services, Inc., Diversified Property Services and Urban Strategies, Inc. hosted a Relocation Kick-Off and Resource Fair at Perkins Homes. The Relocation Kick-off began with a parade circling the property, of marching bands, local cheer squads, and balloons. Residents enjoyed great food from Mission BBQ, Taharka Brothers Ice Cream, and an array of Frito Lay snacks provided by Giant Foods and Frito Lay. Residents were entertained by stilt walkers, balloon twisters, face painters, with DJ “Mister C” providing festive music for the entire event. Baltimore’s favorite comedian Howard G served as the MC for the day and shared the stage with comedians Rickey Shakelford and Big Shorty. PNC Bank sponsored a raffle where three families won partial rental payments. The Fair was also attended by Council President Brandon Scott and Councilman Robert Stokes. Council President Scott noted that “residents were not only advised of which households would be moving and in what timeframe, but they also learned what their relocation options are, including their right to return to the new development and other relocation benefits available to them. Urban Strategies (USI) continues to ensure that Perkins families have decision making power during the CNI-project. USI currently serves over 420 Perkins households and welcome the opportunity to support every individual in Perkins. USI’s primary goal is toensure that Perkins families are thriving in the areas of Education, Housing Stability, Economic Growth and Health! Our case managers are available to provide resources and support to your family during the neighborhood redevelopment.

Since January 2019, Urban Strategies has assisted 20 Perkins residents in obtaining full-time employment opportunities. Wewould like to help you as well. In collaboration with over 20 workforce partners, we are your career navigators in Healthcare, IT, Transportation, Construction, Hospitality and more!

NIGHTS OF CHEER – SUMMER ENRICHMENT

In partnership with My Girls Inc., Urban Strategies Inc. is providing a FREE four-week evening enrichment camp in Perkins for 22 girls ages 5-15. Youth from Perkins will learn the importance of physical fitness, structured competition cheer techniques and tumbling.

PERKINS DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

USI is looking for residents who would like to join the Perkins Development Committee. This Committee will provide suggestions on parks, amenities, and other important expectations that the families of Perkins want to see in the community. If you areinterested in serving on the Perkins Development Committee, please visit our offices on Mason Court.

HABC will offer one or more of the following types of relocation options to each eligible household:
