North America Program - Recruiting

Lead-based: When recruiting is limited to people who have been recommended or referred by an individual who is interested in chartering a club.

Existing Group: When an existing group chooses to be a Lions club so that they can conduct community service and utilize training and insurance benefits. This could be an ethnic group or a special interest group.

Canvassing: When a community is identified and a team of Lions personally contact business and community leaders to recruit them into a new club.

Of course, these strategies are often combined!

Organize Membership MeetingsEstablish a community awareness priority meeting that will show theattendees how a Lions club can help improve their community.

The discussion will allow a group priority of the strength and weakness of the community :1. Each attendee is allowed to present the main thing they like

about their community.

2. Next, ask the attendees to name the one thing that they would like to improved within their community

3. Demonstrate how a Lions club will help the participants accomplish their goals and perhaps with a story of how a Lions club accomplished a similar task.

LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL REGIONAL INITIATIVES 20

After identifying possible projects, ask the group if they know other people in the community who could help the club accomplish these objectives or would be interested in the club’s success.

Collect the names and contact information. Ask an attendee to contact the individuals about the club and invite them to the next meeting.

NOTE: This exercise is further outlined in “Making it Happen” booklet (TK-10) available from the New Clubs and Marketing Department at LCI or downloadable from the website.

Club projects are determined by the members of the club based upon the unique needs of the community and the interests of the membership.

Charter Night Celebration is an optional event, co-hosted by the sponsoring club and the newly chartered club.

The event provides a wonderful opportunity for the sponsoring club and the district to show their support of the new club. The sponsoring club with the aid of the Certified Guiding Lion will help coordinate the organization of the new clubs event. Take care not to overburden the new officers and distract the members from the service work that they plan to provide.

Latin America Program

The progress in membership in Latin America is directly correlated to the L.A. Extension Program and the Global Membership Team.

I had the privilege to coordinate the L.A. Extension Program where some of its members are also GMT members.

We work with pre-arraigned contacts.

The community is scouted for prospects, if they are selected (meet the LCI standards), a group of 2 or 3 will do an on site visit.

The visiting team has been trained with similar USA techniques.

We look for quality members with economical solvency.

We target professionals, business owners & retirees in those fields. University students are also targeted because they are future members meeting the LCI profile.

You know that this is the key to have strong and dedicated clubs.

Club Growth

What This Means…LCI cannot afford to have clubs with members that cannot meet the social and economical challenges of a dynamic club. We are not elitists, but must have certain social levels and cloud to make things happen. Through connections we can move the world. The image of the Lion member must be an elevated one.

Latin American Lions believe in a selective process for membership growth. Our Program has been designed to meet that challenge.

Next Steps:A dynamic duo between the Extension Consultant and the governor has made the difference in the progress of Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela. The GMT members inspired the governors to make the difference.

What does this mean for the project?
