8. National Core Library

Job Title Intern

Purpose of Position Assisting the National Core Repository functions in respect to

collating and developing a foundational database of logs that will

be available for Internal and External Stakeholders

Qualifications Minimum Diploma in geology, BSc in geology would be advantageous.

Generic Key Activities To assist in collating information on the shelves, combining it with information that is in the database. Day to day collection of borehole information in as far as depths, number of trays, borehole ID addresses. The cores have not all been included in the database in their correct addresses; this opportunity will allow for reconnaissance of the database and shelve information. Photography of the cores that is shelved will help build a virtual logging database that can be accessed via the internet. A week report of the shelving observed and corrected will be corroborated with the corelib database.

Repacking, followed by logging of the cores transferred into new tray sizes. Labelling of the trays with the correct Borehole ID, tray numbers as well as consistency with the meters tracking.

Learn the Geochemistry sample gridding method and collate work on the ground, liaising on the progress of map shelving. To assist in reporting the requirements of the Geochemistry team

Sampling techniques are adhered to and compliance in returning cores in their correct depths.

All reports for the above mentioned will be combined and allow us to track activities at Donkerhoek, and revisit areas of improvement where necessary.
