Dos and Don’ts of anOSHA Inspection.

Do Be Polite & Respectful
Stay calm and represent the organization well. Introduce yourself and inform the Inspector you will notify the appropriate persons.
Don’t Wait to Inform the OSHA Response Team
Identify who will manage the OSHA Inspection and make sure the response
team is informed. See back for a list of OSHA Response Team Members.
Do Ask to See the Ocer’s Credentials
Before the inspection begins, ask the officer for his/her credentials. Take down important information and ask for the nature of the inspection.
Don’t Volunteer Information
If the Inspector doesn’t ask for it, don’t say it.
Answer only the question being asked at the time.
Do Expect an Opening Conference
Any inspection should begin with an opening conference. The inspector will state reasons for their visit and ask preliminary questions.
Don’t Leave the Inspector Alone
Have a representative stay with the Inspector for the duration of their time.
Pay attention to the inspector. If they take a picture, take a picture as well.
Do Answer Questions Factually
When asked a question, answer it to the best of your ability and avoid judgmental comments.
Don’t Immediately Hand Over DocumentsIf the inspector asks for documents,
ask he/she to submit a document request and record which documents
were requested.
Do Expect a Closing Conference or Comments
During the closing conference, the inspec-tor will report his/her findings. Take good notes and immediately transmit those notes to the office for records.
Don’t Wait to Prepare For an Inspection
