◦For this lesson, students will be playing a Spelling game on ABCya.com.
◦This game will help the students learn to spell basic words but in a fun manner.
◦This activity will encourage friendly teamwork and competition.

◦ Each student will push start and enter their name for the team.
◦ Push create game and choose a private game.
◦ The password that you enter will be “apple”.
◦ There are four computers allowed per session

Instructions ( Cont.)◦ Push the start game button and the
game will begin.
◦ You will hear a voice of the computer say a word out loud.
◦ You will then spell the word by touching the letters in the order to spell the word correctly.
◦ The letters will appear in the honeycomb. If you are wrong it will give you a hint.
◦ This is a timed game.
◦ The winner gets the most words in the minute time.
◦ We will go through this 4 times each.

End results
◦At the end, it will place the winners in order of time and correct words.
◦The winner gets a place in the Spelling Bee.
◦After this activity we will have a Spelling Bee with the top 4 winners of the game.

SPELLING BEE
We will have a Spelling Bee contest to determine the best speller in the class. The winners of the game will get up in front of the class. I will read words and each student will continue to spell words by rotating. If you get any letter wrong you are out. The winner gets a trophy! ( See bottom picture to the left).

Goal of Spelling DO-Activity
◦Students will gain an understanding of basic words and how to spell them.
◦Students will gained a larger understanding of words and how to correct their mistake.
◦Students will learn different forms of timed pressure by competition.
◦Students will learn the technology of using internet based games for learning,
◦Students will grow skills while having fun.
