1. Introduction 1.1 Overview

The CM-200 Evaluation board is designed as a complete development platform for

Digital 2-way Radio modem (data only) with Antenna connector, USB interface, SWD

debug support. 1.2 Features

Power supply options

Battery

External power

USB interface

SWD Debug support 1.3 Software

Before you connect CM-200 evaluation board to computer, you need to install Celetra

radio tester software.

Optionally you may use your favorite serial port terminal software like Teraterm instead of

Celetra radio tester program.

2.1 Power supply

The CM-200 Evaluation board can supplied with a single cell Li-ion Battery. It is possible

to configure the evaluation board to use external power source. The power supply is

configured by setting the related jumpers CON2 as described in Table 1. The LED on the

CM-200 Modem glows when the evaluation board is powered correctly.

Table 1

Jumper Description

CON2 CON2 is used to select one of the two possible power supply resources.

It is battery powered as default setting.

CON9 External power source ( Typical 4V, Power range 3.7 ~ 5V)

CON7 Battery power source ( Li-ion )

CON1 Reserved

2.2 Boot switch (SW1)

It is used to reprogram the CM-200 Digital 2-way radio modem by using USB. If the boot

switch (SW1) is pressed at start up or reset (SW10 is pressed), the firmware upgrade

performed. 2.3 Reset switch (SW10)

It is used to reset the CM-200 Digital 2-way radio modem. 2.4 USB

USB connector is connected to USB to UART bridge IC (U7). Micro USB Interface is used

to debugging and downloading firmware. 2.5 Development and debug support

CM-200 evaluation board is supported debugging using serial wire debug (SWD) port

(CON12).

6.1 Driver Installation

To interface through the USB port of a PC, OS-specific drivers must be installed. To install the

drivers run CP210x_VCP_Win_XP_S2K3_Vista_7.exe. The following screenshots show the installation

steps involved.

When you plug in the modem to computer USB port, the host (computer) allocates a COM port

to be used with this modem. On successful allocation you can see a message similar to the image

shown below.

6.2.1 Idle Mode

Idle mode is the default mode. When not receiving/transmitting data the modem will be in idle

mode. The modem enters into the other modes under the following conditions:

• Transmit mode (DMR/dPMR data is received in the Serial Buffer)

• Receive mode (Valid Radio data is being received through the antenna)

• Command mode (Command mode sequence is issued)

6.2.2 Transmit Mode

When the first byte of DMR/dPMR data is received in the Serial buffer from the UART, the modem

attempts to enter into the transmit mode and initiates an RF connection with the other modems.

After transmission is completed, the modem returns to idle mode. Note that transition to transmit

mode cannot takes place during RF reception; the RF reception must be completed.

1. Input DMR/dPMR data.

2. Collect DMR/dPMR data.

3. Channel Initialization Complete.

4. Tx Buffer Empty.

6.2.3 Receive Mode

If a modem detects RF data (Carrier) while operating in idle mode, the modem enters into receive

mode to start receiving RF packets. Once a packet is received, the modem checks for the errors. If

errors were found, the incoming packets are invalid and the packet is discarded. Otherwise the

packet is accepted.

7.1.1 Software installation.

CeletraRadioTester PC tool can be used to test Celetra Radio modems and terminals. Minimum

requirements to install this software on your computer, your computer must be running Windows

7 or XP-SP3 and .Net Framework 4.0 client profile.

If an older version is installed on your computer, uninstall it by using the Add or Remove

Programs options in the Control Panel. Run the provided setup.exe file to install

CeletraRadioTester application on your computer as shown in the Figures 17~20.
