The company was founded in 1996 by Navy Lieutenant Commander Joseph Hansen Retired and his wife Darlene (Deist) Hansen. Their goal was and continues to be a

niche for high-level design engineering applications in specific Industries.

In 2000, the company expanded its operations to include the manufacturing arena to complement Joe Hansen’s engineering services.

Safety is a major public, commercial and government concern affecting productdesign, manufacturing and usage. DJ Safety offers a variety of the standard and “made

to order” safety products.

The company has been successfully designing safety products for 15 years and manufacturing them for 11 years.

Firesuit Standard Sizing

SFI Foundation Specs Assure Quality Driver SuitsAll driving suits have a black and white SFI Patch on the left sleeve. The SFI patch demonstrates that the manufactures certifies the suit to meet or exceed the SFI specification. A firesuit that is certified to meet the SFI spec has been laboratory tested and has passed the requirements of that test.

Driver Suit spec 3.2A testes a garment’s fire retardant capabilities. The spec contains a rating system based on the garments capability to provide Thermal Protective Performance (TPP) in the presence of both direct flame and radiant heat. The purpose of the TPP is to measure the length of time the person wearing the garment can be exposed to a heat source before incurring a second degree or skin blistering burn.

A common misunderstanding about SFI ratings is that they represent the number of fabric layers in the garment. It is actually possible for driver suits with various numbers of layers to have the same performance rating. This due to the wide range of materials used by manufactures today.

The radiant heat portion of the spec is significant because the majority of racer burns are caused by heat transfer rather than direct flame. Insulation is the best way to prevent this kind of burn. Using multiple layers of fabric helps keep the heat source away from the skin longer because each layer creates air gaps that have to heat up. The extra seconds gained with each layer are precious to a driver trying to escape from a burning car.

Another way to obtain extra air gaps is to wear racing underwear. Fire resistant underwear should be worn with every type of driver suit, especially single layer suits because it will double the minimum protection time (+3 sec). The 3.2A rating does not include underwear. It is certified through SFI Spec 3.3 for Driver Accessories and undergoes the same TPP and flammability tests as the driver suit outerwear.

A garment insulation capability is also affected by the fit of the suit. A suit worn too tight will compress the air gaps and allow heat to reach the skin faster. Avoid wearing your suit while working on the car. Grease, fuel, oil and even cleaning fluids can soak into the fabric and support the flames of a fire ,causing high heat. Fluids soaked into a suit also produce steam when exposed to hear and cause liquid vaporization burns.

If you are ever involved in a fire, discard your suit and get a new one. Even the smallest singe is a week spot in the material and can cause a problem if exposed to fire again. Proper maintenance of a driver suit will help extend its useful life and provide you with years of protection.

SeatBelts Installation InstructionsThese seatbelts are approved for Highway use and racing. These seatbelts are tested and approved for RACING and DOT. The correct installation of these seatbelts is extremely important. Contact an approved installation shop for necessary assistance. For DOT, install in accordance with SAE J800c.

The most common mistakes on installation are not using the anti-submarine belt and incorrectly mounting of the shoulder harness. 1) The anti-submarine belt is necessary to correctly locate the lap belt, over the lower hip area while tightening the shoulder harness. 2) The shoulder harness must be mounted behind the driver as shown below. The seatbelts must be installed as required by the Sanctioning Associations for the particular vehicle and its use.

If involved in an accident or the webbing shows wear or abuse, return to DJ Safety for inspection or re-placement. All hardware on lap belts, shoulder harnesses and anti- submarine belts are not to be welded on, bent or straightened as this will cause a fracture.

All mounting hardware must be installed at an angle that is compatible with the direction of the pull on the webbing under full load. Mounting hardware must be attached directly to the frame or chassis. DO NOT mount to sheet metal or floor boards. Seatbelt mounting hardware should be anchored directly behind the drivers hips, at the drivers hip width apart. Anti-submarine belts should be anchored parallel to the body line. Always use grade 5 bolts, nuts and washers for driver restraint installations. Shoulder Harness and Lap Belts must be mounted vertically.

ALWAYS INSPECT THE SEATBELTS BEFORE USE. REPLACE THE WEBBING EVERY TWO YEARS BY RETURNING TO DJ SAFETY.

Roller Adjuster Wrap Around Style Snap Fitting Installation

Shown above is the correct method to thread a roller adjuster. Any other method of threading the strap may place undue strain on the buckle.

Threading of wrap around style connection. This method can be used around roll bar or frame rails.

Install cotter pin in the hole of the snap after installation of the seatbelts.

This end must be fed back thru the 3-bar slide to stop possible slipping.

DJ Safety Head and Neck Restraints System - DJS-HNSA head and neck restraint system is an extension of the helmet that protects the head and neck in a collision.

While traditional seatbelts and harnesses securely restrain a driver’s body, the head and neck are left unrestrained and poorly supported. The helmet adds weight to the head, which increases the risk of serious injury, such as a basal skull fracture. Basal skull fractures, which

occur as a result of excessive energy and unrestrained force, are the cause of up to half of racing- caused fatalities. A head and neck restraint system absorbs that energy and significantly reduces the load on the head and neck.

According to DJ Safety, manufacturer of the DJS-HNS Head and Neck Restraint System, a basal skull fracture can occur at forces greater than 4000 Newtons or 900 lbs. All certified head and neck restraint systems are required to limit forces on the neck to less than

2500 Newtons or 563 lbs at 70 G impact.

That might seem a bit dramatic, but it’s the truth. The majority of head and neck injuries in racing are caused by the neck trying to do its job and failing against the massive force exerted by impacts with crash walls or other race cars.

Note: DJ Safety advises drivers to take the time do their own research and verify all information before making a final decision on the purchase of any safety equipment, including a head and neck restraint system.

Measure right below the breast line.

Measure the rib cage right below the bust.

Measure from the bottom on the bra below the bust and over the shoulder to the bottom of the strap of the bra.

Your Helmet must be properly positioned on you head. The Helmet should be worn low on the brow to protect the fore-head area. When properly positioned the helmet must fit your head snugly with uniform, firm pressure all around. It must also touch the top of your head.

Correctly position the helmet on your head and stand in front of a mirror. Gently rotate the helmet first from left to right and then from front to back. If the skin on your brow moves with the helmet as it is rotated, the fit is proper. If the skin on your brow does not move when the helmet is rotated either way, the fit is too lose

A good fit and a properly fastened chin strap is all that keeps the helmet on you head during an accident. Make sure the chin strap is correctly fastened and pulled snugly up against your throat each time you wear your helmet. To correctly fasten the strap, thread the end through the “D” rings as shown below, then pull it until the strap is snugly against your throat.

WARNING: Do not use chin sups or wear strap on the point of the chin. This will increase the risk of the helmet coming off in an accident.

To unfasten the strap and remove your helmet, pull the “D” ring tab outward to release the strap tension. Unthread the strap halves in each hand and while pulling outward lift the helmet from your head.

For a FIRE EXTINGUISHER - Empty the powder into a 2 1/2 Gallon Pressure Canister. Close the canister and shake well. Then let the canister sit for 2 minutes and it will be ready.
