Product DescriptionThe DiyaStar® Panel Switcher comprises of a Calibrated Photo Voltaic Panel (CPVP) and the PV Sense. The CPVP senses the luminosity (solar insolation) and passes the signal to the PV Sense.

Models & AmpacityDiyaStar Panel Switcher -7 - 7 Amps Max LoadDiyaStar Panel Switcher-20 - 20 Amps Max Load

How to ConnectThe DiyaStar® Panel Switcher is basically a switch that interposes between the Main Solar Panel Bank and the point of use.

To connect , the positive output from the Main PV Panel is connected to the PV Sense. The output from the PV Sense is then connected to the Switches Panel.

See the schematic diagram…

The CPVP may be an independent unit or may come integrated with a Master PV Panel supplied by any Solar Panel Manufacturer as a special PV Panel.

The PV Sense is an all weather proof box with a control knob for adjusting the required luminosity based on user preference. While deploying, it should be protected from direct sun and rain by locating it behind the CPVP.

Switches Panel Main PV Panel

Product DescriptionThe DiyaStar® Switches Panel has a controller which is continually, monitoring the input from the Solar Panel through the DiyaStar Panel Switcher. As soon as the Panel Switcher disconnects the Solar Power input, the Switches Panel sensor automatically switches the load to the Grid Power thereby providing uninterrupted lighting.

ModelsDSSP-B : This is a basic model. At the heart is an automatic switcher from Solar to Grid based on input from the Panel Switcher. In addition, an AC to DC Driver (of an appropriate Ampacity) is required to be connected to the circuit.

DSSP-R1 to R8 : These are remote Switching models from 1 switch to multiple switches. The AC to DC Drivers are encapsulated within.

How to ConnectThe DiyaStar® Switches Panel is connected like a regular electrical switch board with minor changes.

The thickness of the wires are required to be based on ampacity pattern (later in this presentation).

To connect , the output from the Panel Switcher is fed into the Switches Panel in the slot provided. Similarly, Grid Power is fed into the appropriate slot.

The output from the Switches Panel is fed to the LEDs and Fans as per Serial numbers given in the out pattern. A flow of connectivity pattern is given in the schematic diagram…

DSSP-7Max Load of 7 Amps can be connected to this Switcher. We have a 20 Amps Switcher too. There will be two inputs, one will be from Solar, and the other from the AC to DC Convertor. This switcher will be at the back of the Switches Panels, Remote or without remote. The above picture is of a Switcher with 8 Amp Convertor . Ampacity of the circuit dependent on this switcher box will determine the size of the converter. More about his later…

AMPACITY & WIRE SIZINGWire ampacity is the safe amount of current that a wire can handle without getting hot or causing a fire.

In India, electrical contractors use upto 2.5 Sq (mm) wire for lighting circuit and about 4 Sq wire for AEH circuit. Classically they call it 2 Sq or 2.5 Sq or 4 Sq, etc. One LED light, say a 12W luminaire consumes only 1 Amp and therefore even 0.5mm Sq is suitable ahead of a switchboard.

Also see: http://www.hplindia.com/cableandwire.pdf (Use FRLS Cables).

Ampacity is indicated against copper wire being sold in the market. Rating indicated by Finolex, one of the most popular brands is given below:

Page 15: DiyaStar® DIRECT FROM SUN LIGHTING SYSTEM .

AMPACITY & WIRE SIZINGISI approved JEYPORE cable in another option. Prices as in Aug 2012 is listed below along with Ampacity.

For LED Lighting, 1 Sq MM Cable is considered adequate for DiyaStar-7 from Rooftop Solar Panel to the Switches Panel.

One LED light, say a 12W luminaire consumes only 1 Amp and therefore, upto 48W LED lights can be connected to 0.5 Sq MM wire.

Page 16: DiyaStar® DIRECT FROM SUN LIGHTING SYSTEM .

AMPACITY & WIRE SIZINGJeypore and other companies provide multi core cables.

For DiyaStar-7, for lights ahead of the Switches Panel upto Fans and Lights may be 0.5 Sq MM wires. Since 0.5 Sq MM is thin, where common negative is not avaiable, it may be a good idea to have a 2 Core 0.5 Sq MM cable.

This makes is easy for the electrician to draw wires through conduits as also reduce costs on wiring since he would have otherwise used 1 to 2 Sq MM for wiring.

ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS

• As stated earlier, in India, most electrical contractors do not make electrical drawings. They are just present during the casting of the roof to put pipes within the casting based on verbal briefing of the house owner or by assessing the location of fans and ceiling lights.• Many electrical contractors do not know how an electrical drawing looks like and have

never made any in their lives but have practical experience in implementing electrical wiring and installation.• When you ask them about the type of wire they are going to use for lighting and AEH

circuit, they will use the following terms:• However when you ask them as to what the above terminology means, they are, more

often than not, unaware of what it means, but know that these are standard wires used for residential or office applications. We have however elaborated on this in the previous slide on Ampacity & Wire Sizing so that you are aware of what the implications are.• The slides following this slide are examples of conventional drawings used for

electrification of homes and offices.• It makes sense for keeping a record of electrical drawings so that after many years, when

you will have no trace of the electrical contractor who installed the wiring, these drawings may be of use should you wish to do some electric re assignments.• Just for your information, the DiyaStar DC lighting system does not require any major re-

designing of the conventional electrical wiring systems. Just a basic knowledge is required so that AC loads are not connected to the DC loads in an installation.

SIDE PROFILE ELECTRIFICATION

When designing wiring of a residence, it may be prudent to keep Receptacles (Plug sockets) within the light switch panel so that the risk of children putting fingers in sockets can be avoided. However, if, for aesthetic reasons, it is desired to keep receptacles at lower level, child proof sockets may be used…

STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED FOR SIZING OF SOLAR PANELS

1. Refer excel sheet (download from our DiyaStar® website).

2. Assess Total Amperage.

3. Isolate requirement of DiyaStar® by identifying locations inside the building where DiyaStar® can be used for illumination during the day.

4. Total up the Wattage (this would indicate the total wattage of Solar Panels to be obtained) – say 2KW.

5. Allocate Panel load correction factor, where add 25% to Wattage obtained in previous step (2KW + 500W = 2.5KW).

6. Next allocate an approximate correction factor, assessing if all DiyaStar® connected lights and fans will or will NOT be switched on simultaneously. In the above example, if it is known that only 50% lights may be on at any time, then requirement of Solar PVs can be reduced to 1.25KW only.

7. Now select the Power Pack from the chart on next Slide…

POWER CONDITIONING UNIT (PCU) - UPS

• Multiprocessor based Modular Robust design.• Simple & Easy Installation.• Hybrid Inverter Operation, Paralleling option with Wind / DG.• Compliance to International standards.• Fully digital control, to have more scalability and easy upgradability.• 20 years Tropicalised design life.• Enclosure with Integrated PV Array combiner unit.• AC/DC switchgear for protection & isolation, built in output isolation transformer.• Safety standards complying to IEC 62040. Safety to the user is provided by

shrouding high potential points inside the system and• Grid islanding protection.

Notes: DiyaStar® does not need PCU / inverter or batteries. DiyaStar® alternates between Solar and Grid Power with priority to use Solar. If Solar power exists, it powers the luminaries and fans instead of these being driven by grid. If Solar Power is weak or non existent, Grid power takes on automatically. If Solar Power is inadequate and Grid Power is also off, only in such cases will a UPS be useful.
