Southwest Alaska Rainbow Trout Management Plan

• Nearly all of the policies and criteria in the plan are included in the following statewide regulations: Special Management Areas and Liberal Harvest Opportunities for Trout (5 AAC 75.210), Statewide Management Standards for Rainbow Trout (5 AAC 75.220), and Policy for the Management of Sustainable Wild Trout Fisheries (5 AAC 75.222).

-Addressed in proposal 47

• The overriding philosophy of the plan is conservative wild stock management.

• In 1990 the board overhauled nearly all regulations for rainbow trout fisheries in the Bristol Bay and Kuskokwim–Goodnews Sport Fish Management Areas. The new regulations essentially implemented the management plan without adopting its language into regulation.

Naknek River Rainbow Trout Sport Fishing Regulations -Addressed in proposal 48

• In all flowing waters upstream from an ADF&G regulatory marker at

Rapids Camp, including all waters within one-quarter mile of all lake and outlet streams:

• only unbaited, single-hook, artificial lures or flies may be used year round; and

• all sport fishing is closed in the Naknek River above the ADF&G regulatory marker located at Rapids Camp from April 10–June 7 to protect spawning rainbow trout.

• Bag and possession limit: • June 8–October 31: one fish, must be less than 18”

• November 1–June 7: five fish, must be less than 18”
