Bo Boles claims second Jeg’sSuper Quick title
Bo Boles had one of those racing seasons of which a racer dreams.He scored four event victories on his way to collecting his second NHRAJeg’s Super Quick Series division championship title. The Slaughters,Ky., racer last won the championship in 1998 and joins Randy Estridge('89 and ‘90), Tim Branon (‘94 and ‘01), and Tommy Radloff (‘96 and ‘97)as two-time series champions. Boles' 150-point victory margin was thelargest in the 14-year history of the series.
Boles and the other top 10 drivers in the year-end points standingswill be honored at the annual North Central Division Awards Banquet,Jan. 11 in Indianapolis. Each of the top 10 will receive special Jeg’sSuper Quick Series jackets, and the top three finishers will share$3,500 in bonus cash from Jeg’s.

Robert Gay, in the Klamo Racing dragster, outperformed 2002’stop Super Quick qualifiers at the Jeg’s Shootout held in conjunctionwith the Sportsman Fall Classic National Open at IndianapolisRaceway Park. Modeled after NHRA’s Budweiser Shootout at Indi-anapolis and Pomona for Funny Car and Top Fuel drivers,respectively, the Jeg’s Shootout features the season’s top eight quali-fiers based on points in a special race-within-a-race format.
Canadian Belle wins NHRA Summit RacingSeries Super Pro National Championship
North Central Division’s Les Belle, of Springfield, Ont., scored the biggestwin of his racing career when he captured the NHRA Summit Racing SeriesSuper Pro National Championship at the 38th annual Automobile Club ofSouthern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif.
Belle, runner-up to Bob Biser, of Columbus, Ohio, at the NHRA SummitRacing Series North Central Division Finals in September was called uponto make the trip west when Biser was unable to go. Belle received $5,000 forthe National Championship win from Summit in addition to his $3,500 quali-fier money.
Burt Exman, the Division 3 Super Pro Motorcycle representative, made itto the semifinal round before bowing out to eventual winner Richard Pedrazafrom Division 6. Jack Spivey in Pro and Terry McGee in Sportsman both wentout in double-breakout first-round losses. Each of the 28 National Champi-onship participants collected $3,500 as part of the overall $118,000 NationalChampionship cash purse.
First-round berths were reserved for the top eight qualifiers thisseason: Tom Stultz, Robert Gay, Tim Branon, Mike Bagley, BrentCollins, Bob Sargent, Eddie Lykins, and James Freels.
