GrantsThe latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund closes 31 May 2015. Priority will be given to applications for purchasing equipment and facility upgrades. The funding guide lines, and application form can be found at www.justice.qld.gov.au. Also refer to the GGQ website for copies of various information that you will require.

This grant would be a good source of funds for asbestos removal and or repairs. See details on your Asbestos Audit report below.

Asbestos ReportsPlease read carefully and act on those areas identified as requiring attention. All repair work involving repair or removal of asbestos must be carried out a qualified asbestos tradesman. We do have a contractor with teams around the state, so if you need assistance please contact Lesley Jardine. This report must be kept in a prominent position in your hut. Any tradesman or volunteer doing any work in the hut must check this report before undertaking any work.

Grants to fund these repairs can be sourced through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund – see above. Closes 31 May.

Database UpdateAs I reported last month, we are working to correct a number of problems in the membership and report writing sections of the database. Hopefully by the end of May, we will have these areas operating correctly. Thanks for your ongoing patience.

Revised Membership FormsBoth the adult and youth membership forms have been updated. Copies are attached for your reference. Please use these new forms now.

They are available on our website at www.guidesqld.org/forms#membership

Dear [Parent Name]

RE: New Membership

Welcome to the Guiding community! Thank you for taking this opportunity to register [CHILDS NAME] as

a member of Girl Guides Queensland. I am confident that many wonderful memories will be created, as

[CHILD’S NAME] builds her own set of life skills through the Guides leadership development activities.

Empowering girls and young women has been our mission since Girl Guides was founded over 100 years

ago and we continue to achieve this by helping girls reach their potential and be their best – whatever

their ability or background.

We hope you enjoy your time in Guiding as much as [CHILD’S NAME].

We take the delivery of training to our Leaders very seriously to ensure girls, just like [NAME], enjoy every

moment of Guiding. Fun filled activities, outdoor adventures – all are designed to encourage and develop

confidence and leadership skills in the girls.

Our mission is important to us and is the cornerstone of all we do.

To enable girls and young women to grow into confident,

self-respecting, responsible community members.

We encourage you to check out our website. This is filled with helpful information including our policies on

Privacy and Keeping Children Safe.

I look forward to meeting you and [CHILD’S NAME] in person some time at one of our many events.

Please feel free to contact me at any time.

A warm welcome once again.

Yours in Guiding

Volunteers are often described as our community’s most valuable hidden assets. That is certainly the case at Girl Guides Queensland. So on behalf of the team at the GGQ Support Centre, I want to take this opportunity to say ONE BIG THANK YOU to all our Region and District Managers and to every member of your teams of volunteers for their invaluable contribution to Guiding in Queensland.

Your continued support ensures that thousands of girls around our State experience all that Guiding has to offer. Now, more than ever, your ongoing involvement and commitment is vital in ensuring that we continue to offer activities for girls that develop their self confidence, skills and sense of community.

Please pass on our sincere thanks to all those who volunteer in your Districts, Units and Support Groups.

Asbestos ReportsAsbestos Audit Reports on your hut will be posted out to you next week.

All requests/renewals for Blue Card MUST be supplied on the pre-filled GGQ forms and sent to the Support Centre for initial processing. This will ensure more efficient and faster processing. Any forms sent direct to the Blue Card agency will be returned to GGQ for processing first. This extra step will delay receiving positive Blue Cards by several weeks. Pre-filled forms are at.

For anyone who is registered for a Blue Card through any other organisation, they must complete an Authorisation form and forward to the Support Centre so that we can have you recorded on our system. This will avoid unnecessary paper work and lost time (RMs, DMs and staff). These pre-filled forms are also available on our website for your convenience.

NO BLUE CARD = NOT ABLE TO WORK WITH CHILDREN

Biscuit CampaignWe have received great positive feedback on the taste and quality of the biscuits this year. They are certainly selling fast around the State.

Unfortunately, I have also received reports that our biscuits are being sold at a higher price than $3 per packet. THIS IS NOT ALLOWABLE. GGA and all State Girl Guide organisations have agreed that our biscuits can only be sold for $3 per packet for each variety. The only variation that is acceptable is if we need to clear stock quickly at a discounted price before the use by date expires.

Under no circumstances can our biscuits be sold for a higher price. If any District is not happy with this, then phone Carol (07 3357 1266) to organise for the return of your stock to GGQ,

GGA has organised with Bunnings stores around Australia to make available space/table for Guides to sell biscuits. As these are franchise operations, this can only be suggested but I strongly recommend that you approach your local store quickly. Certificates of Appreciation are available from the Support Centre if you wish to acknowledge their support. Good luck.

Online Registrations for Trainings and EventsFrom 1 April, all registrations for Trainings and Events are to be logged onto the Events section of our website. Payments (by credit or debit cards) must be made at the same time to complete the registration. If for whatever reason, you cannot make the required payment, please contact staff at the Support Centre. Your details will be taken and you will be added to the waiting list until your payment is received.

For those without credit cards, you can pay by cheque. However, the cheque must be received BEFORE booking deadline.

Your Best Program IdeasAt the March Region Manager’s Conference, Region Managers were asked to encourage all Leaders to put down on a specially prepared form their best/favourite program activity. The objective is to build a resource library of tried and tested activities to share with all leaders.

This will benefit leaders by offering alternative ideas on how to run an existing activity – or maybe offer a new activity. Please consider and send your ideas to the Program Manager (Glenys Tredoux).

ANZAC Day MarchThanks to all the Managers, Leaders and parents who organised their girls to participate in the ANZAC Day marches around the State last month. We have again received numerous compliments on our girls (their friendliness and respectful behaviour) from Veterans and the general public. In the Brisbane march, we had our biggest contingent for a long time – with 251 Members proudly marching. That was 65 more than last year! In addition to distributing cups of water to Veterans, our girls also carried banners and identification paddles.

What a fantastic result. Thank you all.
