BUNNINGS Excellent Opportunities AvailableI met recently with the Bunnings Marketing staff at their state office in Brisbane. I thanked them for their long term support of Girl Guides around Queensland and then presented a Certificate of Appreciation. They were thrilled and very appreciative.

It is a great partnership we have developed with Bunnings. They support us with marketing/fundraising opportunities and we support them by buying an enormous amount of hardware and materials from Bunnings – especially when we have won grants.

I recommend that each District personally present the same certificate to their local store. Please say a big THANK YOU for all they have done. A laminated A4 colour certificate was mailed Friday 12 June to each District that we believe has a relationship with Bunnings. Please contact Jamie - [email protected] – if you do not receive one. He will organise a copy for you.

Bunnings are very anxious to assist Girl Guides around Queensland so we discussed a number of possibilities. In addition to the sausage sizzles, the following were proposed:

ʞ Sell biscuits in store

ʞ Participate in demonstrations (build your own billy cart, construct a vegetable garden, how to erect a tent or something similar)

ʞ Membership drives in store

So please make contact with the Activities Organiser at your nearest store to discuss how we can you can work together – for the benefit of both Guides and Bunnings. Good luck!

Certificate of Appreciation

The valuable fundraising opportunities you have provided to Girl Guides over many years around our State has been greatly appreciated. The funds raised by staffing the famous Bunnings Sausage Sizzles has played a significant part in local Girl Guide Districts being able to deliver the Guiding program in their respective communities.

This in turn helps Girl Guides Queensland fulfil our mission to empower girls and young women to grow into confident, self respecting, responsible community members.

Velia Nicholls State Commissioner, Girl Guides Queensland

Bunnings Warehouse Queensland

Mark this date in your diary - Saturday 22 August. It promises to be a great adventure for the whole family. Stay tuned for more information on the activities being organised. Anyone wishing to volunteer their services on the day, please contact Debbie Frost on [email protected].

AGP Deadline Extended to 30 JuneMessage from the State Commissioner:

The consultation phase of the AGP Review has been underway for some months now and I would like to thank those of you who have contributed to the e-survey, participated in Leaders’ caravans (forums) and run Girls’ activities.

To make sure that the opportunity for Leaders and Guides to have their say is maximised, I have supported an extension to the dates for the consultation phase. I encourage you to take this opportunity if you have not participated as yet. It is vitally important that the Review hears the “voice” of Guiding in all its richness and diversity. We want to hear from as many Queensland Leaders and girls as possible. The timelines for consultation are now:

ʞ Leader Survey and Caravan – Open until the 30 June

ʞ Youth Activity/Girls Activity – Open until the 30 June

Please also schedule an opportunity for your Guides to explain what they want from their organisation of the future. Your contribution is important and much valued. Forward this feedback to Girl Guides Australia. All the details of how you can participate and tools to support you are available on the GGA website at www.girlguides.org.au.

Thank you very much for your commitment to the future of Guiding.

Audit Reports for 2014Audited reports for 2014 are now overdue. Please advise Carol when we can expect these reports or if you need assistance.

Please be aware that Councils are now requesting copies of the District’s audited financial statements as part of the lease renewal process. They are also requesting copies of the Building Safety Check List (QF.IP.01) that are to be supplied with your audited reports every year.

If these reports have not been sent to the Support Centre, please do so now.

Revised Membership FormsBoth the adult and youth membership forms have been updated. Copies are attached for your reference. Please use these new forms now. They are available on our website at www.guidesqld.org/forms.

AUDITED REPORTS FOR 2013

These reports are still required even though they relate to the 2013 year.

IT IS A LEGAL REQUIREMENT. IF YOU NEED HELP – JUST ASK.

Database UpdatesAs you are aware, we have had some setbacks with our database. I am pleased to report that we ARE making progress.

ʞ All data has been checked for accuracy. If you find any discrepancies please notify us immediately via: [email protected]

ʞ Reports will now only be drawn from this data only which is contained in one file only

ʞ Each Member can update their own information under My Details (profile page)

ʞ Each Member can now also add a personal photo to their profile if they wish ʞ Members can now RENEW their membership online from their profile page

once they have been invoiced ʞ Currently working to simplify reports and make them easier to access. If you

find and discrepancies, please notify [email protected] immediately

A reminder that to help us keep the data up to date, we ask that you forward all paperwork (relating to members, positions, Units, Districts, Regions) to the Support Centre as quickly as possible.

Blue CardsAll requests/renewals for Blue Card MUST be supplied on the pre-filled GGQ forms and sent to the Support Centre for initial processing. This will ensure more efficient and faster processing.

Any forms sent direct to the Blue Card agency will be returned to GGQ for processing first. This extra step will delay receiving positive Blue Cards by several weeks.

Pre-filled forms are on our website at www.guidesqld.org/forms

For anyone who is registered for a Blue Card through any other organisation, they must complete an Authorisation form and forward to the Support Centre so that we can have you recorded on our system. This will avoid unnecessary paperwork and lost time (RMs, DMs and staff). These pre-filled forms are also available on our website for your convenience.

Biscuit CampaignWe have received great positive feedback on the taste and quality of the biscuits this year. They are certainly selling fast around the State.

Unfortunately, I have also received reports that our biscuits are being sold at a higher price than $3.00 per packet. THIS IS NOT ALLOWABLE. GGA and all State Girl Guide organisations have agreed that our biscuits can only be sold for $3 per packet for each variety. The only variation that is acceptable is if we need to clear stock quickly at a discounted price before the use by date expires.

Under no circumstances can our biscuits be sold for a higher price. If any District is not happy with this, then phone Carol (3357 1266) to organise for the return of your stock to GGQ,

GGA has organised with Bunnings stores around Australia to make available space/table for Guides to sell biscuits. As these are franchise operations, this can only be suggested but I strongly recommend that you approach your local store quickly. Certificates of Appreciation are available from the Support Centre if you wish to acknowledge their support. Good luck.

Online Registrations for Trainings and EventsFrom 1 April, all registrations for Trainings and Events are to be logged onto the Events section of our website. Payments (by credit or debit cards) must be made at the same time to complete the registration. If for whatever reason, you cannot make the required payment, please contact staff at the Support Centre. Your details will be taken and you will be added to the waiting list until your payment is received.

For those without credit cards, you can pay by cheque. However, the cheque must be received BEFORE booking deadline. You will then be required to go back online to register all your details.

Story Bridge, Brisbane. 1-15 June 2015

Your Best Program IdeasAt the March Region Manager’s Conference, Region Managers were asked to encourage all Leaders to put down on a specially prepared form their best/favourite program activity. The objective is to build a resource library of tried and tested activities to share with all leaders.

This will benefit leaders by offering alternative ideas on how to run an existing activity – or maybe offer a new activity. Please consider and send your ideas to the Program Manager (Glenys Tredoux) on [email protected].

Form template is attached to help submit all the necessary information.

Correction - Cork FundIn the March issue of District Matters, I wrote that assistance was available through the Cork Fund for current members who need financial assistance to renew their memberships. I incorrectly stated that these funds were also available for NEW members. That is not the case. I apologise for the confusion this may have caused.

Immediate Action Required - Be Your BestI have found in my recent travels, that there are still posters with “Be your Best” on display in huts. There is a copyright on this slogan held by Little Athletics. We are in breach of that if we display that slogan anywhere. Please remove immediately any items with this slogan
