The Government of Indonesia has put an effort to stimulate the palm oil development in the global vegetable oil trade, especially in the downstream sector, which is palm oil processing industry. It is a strategic approach considering Indonesia is one of the world’s largest producers of palm oil. Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and Crude Palm Kernel Oil (CPKO) are main products of the palm oil industry and widely used as raw materials for both food and non-food industries. The downstream palm oil industry provides multipliers effects: 1) the growth of other economic sub-sectors, 2) sustainable industrial development, 3) technology transfer, 4) employment expansion, 5) foreign exchange earnings and 6) tax revenue increase. Some derivative products of CPO and PKO produced for food sector include cooking oil, salad oil, butter, margarine, Cocoa Butter Substitute (CBS), Vanaspati (vegetable ghee), food emulsifiers, fat, and ice cream, whereas non-food derived products are surfactant, biodiesel, and other derivative oleochemicals. Aceh is one of the regions in Indonesia that has focused on developing palm oil sector, with 228,230 hectares of smallholder plantations, produced 399,618 tons in 2016. It also has a large area of palm oil plantation managed by private enterprises covering 201,729 hectares with a production of 62,814 tons in 2015. At present Aceh only produces CPO and CPKO that are exported to other regions. Currently it has ± 44 palm oil mills (active)a, spread on the east and south west coast of Aceh. To support this strategic sector, the Government of Aceh is expected to issue a policy related to the value added of CPO in Aceh. The opportunity is wide open to develop the downstream palm oil industry in Aceh, therefore we invite you to invest both in Nagan Raya District as one of the main producers of palm oil in Aceh and in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Arun Lhokseumawe ( sezarun.co.id ).
