This promises to be a very fun night.

Support Middleburgh Rotary and Race the Governor

As part of Fridays’ Day of Service and Rotary Day in Middleburgh on Friday, May 15 – our friends in the Middleburgh Rotary Club are hosting a 5K run! While this Governor is not nearly as quick as his marathon days, I challenge all Rotarians to step up to the starting line and join me in running this 5K run in Middleburgh. The Village of Middleburgh is literally rolling out the red carpet to our Rotarians and District 7190. We have embarked on a totally new concept for the District Conference, one that embraces one of the towns/villages within our borders – to make a difference and show the citizens and business owners the impact that Rotary and our Rotarians can make on a community. We need everyone to show up in record numbers – wear your Rotary Shirts, your Rotary hats, your Rotary jackets. The time is now to be part of our Rotary Day!!! That evening will also feature a 5K run that is hosted by the Middleburgh Rotary Club. As you are walking about the village of Rotary, we would like for you to be part of the 5K run. Whether you run the race, whether you jog or walk, we’d like you to participate. Not a runner? Then just stand along the sidelines and cheer… If you join us in the race and cross the finish line ahead of the Governor, then I’d be honored to raise a glass and toast you at the Conference banquet. Thank you for all that you do for Rotary and our communities!!

Northville’s New Interact Club The goal of Northville’s RYLA Student Catherine

Millington was to establish an Interact Club at the school. It is off and running with about 15 members! Advisors Mika Irie, Sara Colaneri, Kathleen Lomaestro and Shannon Fitzgerald have helped set their goals, activities, and budget. Catherine serves as its president.

The club plans a number of community service activities. These include paying for senior citizens to attend school performances as well as providing a reception for them at the event. They also plan to work as volunteers at the annual Woodworking and

Fine Arts Weekend in July sponsored by the Northville Rotary. Their first fundraiser is renting out spaces in the school parking lot during the Northville Village Garage Sale Weekend the 1st weekend in May.

Special recognition and thanks go to Dr. Leslie Ford, Superintendent and Mariah Kramer, High School Principal, both Northville Rotarians, for encouraging Catherine to apply to RYLA and the support they have given to the new club. The Northville Rotary is proud of both Catherine’s achievement and the new Interact Club and will support them as they grow in the future.

For more information see page 1. Speaker Dr. Kathy Braico, retired pediatrician from

Queensbury, lead a Rotary Vocational Training Team to Bangladesh in January, supported by a District Grant and contributions from the Granville, Glens Falls, Burnt Hills/Ballston Lake and Lake George Rotary Clubs. During her visit, Dr. Braico taught nurses, mid-wives and physicians on the latest techniques to assist newborn babies who have breathing problems. The purpose of the trip was to “train the trainer” so that these techniques will be taught by those Dr. Braico trained to expand the reach of the program and make it sustainable. Dr. Braico’s will present a program on her Rotary Vocational Training Team trip.

2015 District Conference As I write this update, we are approaching the

deadline for registration. We have “Sold Out” the full conference option which included Sunday Brunch at the American Hotel. We have also filled all available stations in our two cooking breakouts on Saturday afternoon. However, many of you have said you will be participating one or more days but have not yet registered. Don’t delay – we need final head counts for all activities!

Our biggest update is that a representative of Rotary International will be traveling with his wife all the way from India to attend our unique conference in the Schoharie Valley. Please turn out to make these international ambassadors feel welcome!

We also are honored to have Jenny Braswell of

Mercy Ships as our keynote speaker. Mercy Ships offers free, first-rate care to Africa’s poor, which would otherwise be impossible to obtain.

Friday’s activities include work on a variety of recovery projects in connection with Schoharie Area Long Term recovery (SALT) and the Sunshine Fairgrounds. Thanks to the efforts of Doug Ford of Curtis Lumber (Ballston Spa) and Bruce McConnellee (Scotia) we have worked out a number of projects that can make a substantial difference to this community. We need your help to get them completed. There are many “assistant” jobs of a non-strenuous nature, so please don’t be shy in registering. Lunch and a t-shirt will be provided to all workers.

Middleburgh Rotary in connection with Middleburgh Business Association is rolling out the red carpet, not only with their Fabulous Friday evening celebration, but also the Sloughter 5k.

We have about 12 registrations for our House of Friendship display which will feature visuals on many of the good projects we do as Rotarians. All of our clubs do good work which deserves to be celebrated. Others may feel inspired to do more when they see the variety of projects undertaken. We

hope to see more of our clubs reserve table space and spread the good news!

SUNY Cobleskill is our base for all activities on Saturday. Remaining available breakout sessions include: Dairy Production, Equine Therapy, Horticulture Tour, Nature Walk and Bird Watch, The Value of Water, and Agricultural Machinery.

Our Governor’s reception will feature a cocktail hour sponsored by Glenville Rotary followed by “Thanksgiving” dinner, featuring some of the hors d’oeuvres and desserts worked on by our Rotarian students. By Kate Toombs

Annual Canoe Raffle Features Hornbeck New

Trick 12 This year TheHornbeck New Trick 12 is the

prize that will go to one lucky winner as the North Creek Rotary Club Annual Canoe Raffle gets underway. Tickets are now available through the North Creek Rotary Club and its individual members. Tickets cost only $5.00 each and a purchaser can increase the chances of winning by purchasing 5 tickets for just $20.00. The Hornbeck New Trick 12 has a retail value in excess of $1,500.00, making this raffle an incredible opportunity to acquire this fantastic Made in the Adirondacks craft while supporting the recognized community work undertaken by the North Creek Rotary Club.

Enhanced speed and performance are the benefits of the Hornbeck New Trick 12. Made of a tough Matrix blend of Kevlar and Carbon Fiber, the New Trick weighs just 18 lbs. This 12 ft. craft from Hornbeck has a 25” beam, making for a more linear hull shape for added sleekness, enhanced tracking ability, increased speed and maneuverability.

The drawing will take place during the White Water Derby weekend at the Riverside

Railway Station in Riparius. The North Creek Rotary Club is always open to welcoming new members to its ranks for the purposes of continuing its services to the community. Inquiries about membership can be forwarded to Club Secretary, Bill Quinlivan at: [email protected].

Rotary International

2015 Convention Celebrate together in São Paulo, Brazil during the 2015 Rotary

International Convention. Register now!!!!!

The website is www.riconvention.org. Come join DG Dave and many of us from our district for a week in Brazil. Best of all you'll make a number

of new friends and learn a lot more about Rotary. And maybe even bring back some ideas for projects and fund raisers.

São Paulo is the main gateway for foreign tourists into the country and according to some organizations like Trip Advisor; it has surpassed Rio as a destination. Why?

• 90 city parks and theme parks - Ibirapuera Park • Largest zoo in Latin America • 9 soccer stadiums • 53 shopping malls as well as shops and street fairs • 3 taxis per thousand people (compared to 1.5 in New York City) • Specialized museums (many are free) such as the soccer museum

Attached is our Zones 28-29 April São Paulo Newsletter. Online registration is available on the convention website at http://www.riconvention.org/en/2015/Pages/ridefault.aspx.

As noted on the attached newsletter, there is a personal information sharing option on the RI Convention Registration form. If this box is checked, the registrant's information will not show up on our registration reports. If you have registered for the convention, please also join us for Friday Night Lights with your fellow Rotarians from Zones 28 and 29, http://tinyurl.com/2829fridaynight.
