1. TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN ANDHRA PRADESH

Andhra Pradesh has the distinction of being a leading tourism destination in India and is presently, the

Third most visited State in terms of domestic tourist arrivals. Following table highlights the district wise

Source: Ministry of Tourism, 2017 It is estimated that the footfalls of tourists in the State are likely to increase to 178 Million by 2020 and

462 Million by 2029. The Government has been offering various incentives to investors under Tourism

Policy 2015-20 and Land Lease Policy 2016 to galvanize creation of world class tourism infrastructure

and tourism services in the State. Some of the key tourist attractions in the State are highlighted below.

2. ABOUT PERUGU LANKA

A total extent of 73.05 acres of lanka land in River Godavari up-stream opposite to Gautama Ghat,

Rajamahendravaram, vernacularly called as Perugu Lanka in Surveyed Number is yet to be allotted very

much in Rajamahendravaram, East Godavari District.

The District Tourism Council (D.T.C) East Godavari proposed to develop this Island in

Rajamahendravaram to introduce tourism activities like International level Golf Course (18 Holes), Bio-

diversity Park, Temporary Accommodation Facility, Club House cum bar & restaurant and other

ancillary facilities , Sports Complex, Water Amusement Rides, Conference Hall and Banquet Facilities

with the support of Tourism Department to create a “Best World Class Eco Tourism” hub with all

necessary permissions/clearances.

In order to support the benefit the investors the Government will however extend assistance to raise the

level of this Lanka and Bund Revetment, provide a parking space of 0.5 acre opposite to the Island

nearby to Gautami Ghat and a Pedestrian walking bridge from a nearest point to reach the Island.

2.1. ROAD CONNECTIVITY Rajamahendravaram is around 1 km, the nearest town, to the Perugu Lanka.

2.2. RAIL CONNECTIVITY Rajamahendravaram is around 1 km, the nearest town, to the Perugu Lanka.

2.3. AIR CONNECTIVITY The nearest Domestic Airport from Peravaram is Rajamahendravaram Airport, 18 Km from the city.

3. NEARBY TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

3.1. PAPI HILLS Papi Hills, also known as Papidi Kondalu, are three in number situated like a wall on a section of the

Godavari River. The entire area is covered by tropical rain forest and was recently declared as a protected

National Park.

3.2. GODAVARI BRIDGES The Kovvur-Rajamahendravaram Bridge is Asia’s third longest road-cum-rail bridge crossing a water

body. The other bridges spanning the Godavari River are Havelock Bridge and Godavari Arch Bridge.

3.3. ISKCON TEMPLE The famous Iskcon Temple is situated near Gowthami Ghat in Rajamahendravaram. The temple attracts

tourists from all across the region making it a place of devotion, dedication and spiritual experience.

3.4. SIR ARTHUR COTTON MUSEUM General Sir Arthur Cotton was a British General and Irrigation Engineer. Cotton devoted his life to the

construction of irrigation and navigation canals throughout British India. He helped development of

irrigation in the region by constructing the Dowleswaram Barrage and in the development of Kurnool

Cuddappah Canal (K. C. Canal).

The Sir Arthur Cotton Museum has been built in his honour in Rajamahendravaram. The museum holds

approximately one hundred images and 15 machine tools that Cotton used while constructing the barrage

during 1847 to 1850.

3.5. KADIYAPULANKA NURSERIES Kadiyapulanka is a village near Rajamahendravaram. An important industry for Kadiyapulanka is

horticulture and floriculture, with the area's nurseries exporting flowers throughout India. The gardens of

Kadiyapulanka have the biggest flower market in the state and are the second largest producer of plants in

India. The area has approx. 600-800 nurseries ranging from 0.5 acres to 200 acres.

4. PURPOSE OF EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

D.T.C intends to develop Perugu Lanka as one of the top tourism destinations and hence proposes to

engage reputed developers to leverage their experience and investments to develop world class tourism

infrastructure and offer excellent hospitality to tourists visiting this Lanka. Key features of the project are
