Scholarships Programmes of The Rotary Foundation

• 2012-13

– Ambassadorial Scholarship

– Rotary Peace Fellowships

• 2013 Onwards

– Scholarships (through Global Grants)

Ambassadorial Scholarships• Scholarships to students who:

– Study abroad– Ambassadors of good will– Improve international understanding

• Single year, $27,000 grant• Applications from District due Oct. 1• At least two years college• Language proficiency in host country• Not available to Rotarians

Rotary Peace Fellowships

• Two types:– Individuals pursuing Masters degree in

International Relations, Peace, Conflict Resolution, etc.

– Individuals pursuing professional development certificate in peace and conflict resolution

• Applications due July 1

• 50 Masters and 50 prof. dev. cert. per year

• Rotarians not eligible

• Controlled within District

• Small, usually $1K - $5K

Matching Grants

How to leverage your money!!

Basics of an MG• Fund humanitarian projects• Club(s) where project located: Host• Club(s) giving additional funds:

International (must be a different “country”)

• Both Districts participate, as does TRF• Apply by March 31• TRF contribution: $5K (min) and $200K

Basics (cont.)

• Projects must be new, not in progress

• Only certain types of projects qualify

• Host club(s) must contribute min. of $100

• Hosts can only have 5 open at a time

• Strict reporting requirements

Financial Model

• Each host and intl. Club must contribute

• Each District may participate

• Dist. Contributions do not have to be same as Club contribution

• TRF matches Club amt. $.50 on the dollar

• TRF matches Dist. Amt. dollar for dollar

The MG application

Using Guide to Matching Grant, we will step through the sections.

Project Description

• Who, what, where, when and how

• Continuity of project after the grant

• Detailed description of Rotarian activities

Host & International Partners

• Club or district project

• Provide all contact information

• Contacts must be in good standing with RI

• All contacts must be in sponsoring club

Project Budget

• Itemize expenditures

• Supplier names must be provided

• Invoices not required, but may be requested

• Indicate exchange rate

Project Financing

• Financing must equal budget

• Calculate in US$

• Indicate cash or DDF

• DRFC chair and DG must authorize use of DDF

Project Planning

• All questions must be answered

• Equipment cannot be owned by Rotarians or Rotary clubs

• Customs clearance must be arranged

Competitive Grants

• Grant requests from US$25,001-$200,000

– Community Needs Assessment

Authorizations

• Authorizations signed by current year officers

• Club-sponsored vs. district-sponsored

• All signatures must be submitted with the application (otherwise application will not be processed)

Cooperating Organizations

• Cooperating Organization vs. beneficiary

• Letter of participation from Cooperating Org

• Letter of endorsement from host partner

Final Report

• Both sponsors are responsible for reports

– Should include input from both sponsors

• Club / district handling grant funds should take the lead in reporting

DGSC Review

• District grants subcommittee must confirm that the application is complete

• Host or international partner

• Does not guarantee Trustee approval
