FESTIVALS AND SPECIAL EVENTSWith more than 130 special events on tap each year, Norfolk is home to great festivals, outdoor concerts and holiday celebrations. From Harborfest® and the Virginia Arts Festival to Holidays in the City and the bi-annual Virginia Wine Festival, it’s four seasons of fun
in Norfolk.
DINING AND NIGHTLIFELooking for a night out? When the sun goes down, Norfolk comes alive. The city offers extraordinary culinary experiences from local favorites to affordable fine dining at one of many chef-owned restaurants. Sample wines at the Mermaid Winery, Virginia’s first urban winery, or head over to one of our local craft breweries. Don’t forget Norfolk’s growing coffeehouse scene; you might even catch an open mic night! Whether meeting up with friends on Granby Street, strolling down Colley Avenue in Ghent, or watching the sunset in Ocean View, Norfolk’s many neighborhoods offer a variety of cafés, clubs
and pubs to enjoy!
ATTRACTIONSTake a tour of the Elizabeth River harbor on a majestic tall ship, watch world-renowned artists blow glass at the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio, stroll through 155 acres of azaleas, roses and camellias at Norfolk Botanical Garden or relax at the beach. If history is your thing, sign up for a boat or land tour of the world’s largest Naval Base, stop by the MacArthur Memorial, walk the Cannonball Trail, explore the Hampton Roads Naval Museum or discover the power of the sea at Nauticus or aboard the Battleship Wisconsin.
SPORTS AND RECREATIONGo fishing, kayak, learn how to sail, bike along the Elizabeth River, or take a few swings at one of Norfolk’s two golf courses. Enjoy great professional sports during your visit. Take in exciting AAA baseball action with the Norfolk Tides at downtown’s Harbor Park, or an ECHL hockey game with the Norfolk Admirals at the Norfolk Scope Arena.
Take a stroll through the NEON Arts District for a unique cultural experience. Visit the Hermitage Museum and Gardens to view a world-wide art collection and contemporary exhibition galleries, all surrounded by twelve acres of formal gardens and natural woodlands. By night, try concerts on the harbor, a play at the Wells Theatre, live music at the NorVa or a stylish evening at the Virginia Opera or Virginia Symphony.
GETTING AROUNDGetting around in Norfolk is easy by bus or light rail. The Tide light rail route extends 7.4 miles from Eastern Virginia Medical Center east through downtown Norfolk, adjacent to I-264 to Newtown Road. Eighteen bus routes offer direct connections to six of the 11 Tide stations.
ACCOMMODATIONSFrom full-service hotels to boutique inns and bed and breakfasts, Norfolk offers more than 5,000 hotel rooms to accommodate every budget and style.
SHOPPINGNorfolk’s urban shopping centers feature everything from popular national retailers at MacArthur Center and Military Circle Mall to trendy boutiques, specialty shops and
antiquing in Ghent.
MUSEUMS AND ARTSNorfolk is the Mid-Atlantic’s cultural cornerstone, with an array of fine and performing arts centers, great museums, galleries, live music venues and working artist studios. By day, stay cool inside the The MacArthur Memorial or the world-class Chrysler Museum of Art. Visit the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio to enjoy free glassblowing demonstrations. The Chrysler Museum Glass Studio offers a full slate of public demonstrations and performances, and offers a wide variety of classes and workshops.
