The 1st Mobility Learning, Teaching or Training Activities of the “Treasure in Language”, Erasmus+ project brought together  two teachers and two students from each partner schools (Bulgaria, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Romania and Turkey)from the 13th to the 19th of March 2017.

The organising school and the host of the activities was I.S.I.S  UMBERTO NOBILE -ROALD  AMUNDSEN in Lauro, in the province of Avellino, Campania, Italy.

Meeting Timetable

The 1st MOBILITY (LEARNING ACTIVITIES) of “Treasure in Language”, Erasmus+ project, had the following objectives:

 - to make students in each country participate to common workshops and activities on traditional food, customs and traditions;- to explore places in Italy so that all the partners have a better understanding of the Italian people, culture and history;- to share experiences, challenges and knowledge on how to better address the planned activities, considering the need to discuss practical arrangements;- to discuss future agreements regarding the next transnational meeting in Romania- to strengthen the commitment of all partner schools;- to discuss the evaluation and dissemination of the activities done

The themes of the 1st Mobility(Learning Activities) of “Treasure in Language”, Erasmus+ project were:

- Discussion about the project to realize and presentation of the programme - Visits to the Hotel Management School and Conservatory - participation to laboratoriesv on traditional food and dances/music

- Discussion about the project, photos, videos and a written students' report about the impressions, the sensations felt visiting all the places of the programme.- Evaluation about the activities and the whole visit.

PreparationsPreparations for the 1st Learning Activity of ‘Treasure in Language”, Erasmus+ project took place in a month before the groups arrival.-The coordinating school made practical arrangements, such as booking the hotel, preparing the programme, providing information on how to arrive to the school etc.-Participants made travel arrangements: booking flights, buying insurance, prepared all the necessary information for the meeting.  

Organization:The 1st Learning Activity of “Treasure in Language”, Erasmus+ project took place over five days, excepting the arrival and departure days, taking

the form of laboratories/workshops combined with study visits.

Arrivals (March 12th -13th 2017)

The groups were met by the organizer and took to the hotel in Nola, a very old town of Campania, situated in the plain between Mount Vesuvius and the Apennines.

Tuesday, 14th March 2017

All students and teachers had the opportunity to meet and to get to know each other better, as well as discussing the planned activities in detail.

A study visit to Paestum (THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE AND MUSEUM) Paestum is located on the Tyrrhenian Sea in southern Italy’s Salerno Province of Campania. It was the site of an ancient Geek city and the remains of three Doric Greek temples have survived. These temples from c.600-450BC are the main attraction in Paestum.A guided tour has given the participants an insight into history, art and traditions of Italy. Being familiar with these topics is relevant for the personal and professional development of the students and teachers, as well as for achieving the aims of the project. The day ended with discussions on the sights seen and their culturale value for the Italian people and for the entire world.

The second day of the meeting was dedicated mostly to workshops. Here are the issues:

Tuesday, 15th of March 2017

-We first visited the school and we were spoken about its 3 fields: bar tenders, receptionists and cooks.-The students and teachers from the partner schools attended to lessons  and demonstrations in each sector mentioned above- both students and teachers took part in workshops learning  about traditional Italian food and how it is prepared.-our lunch  consists of the meal prepared by the mixed groups of students.

The Italian students, helped by their teachers, took measurements , explained how to calculate the BMI and spoke about  the importance of healthy eating and exercising.

In the afternoon all the groups visited Naples , a fascinating city, rich in art, history and food, having as guides the Italian students. 

We started our visit from Piazza del Plebiscito, then we strolled down to the seafront to admire the Bay of Naples and  Castel dell’Ovo. We enjoyed the views and lively atmosphere, and sample Naples' contribution to food history -- Margherita pizza. Then we visited Teatro Di San Carlo and Castel Nuovo , also known as the Maschio Angioino, which was the residence of kings and viceroys of Naples.  We also had some free time to explore Naples on our own.

The aim of this visit was to see and evaluate the traditions in people’s way of living, speaking and eating and what values they promote to the world. Therefore, we will be able to meet the project objectives.

Visit to the Conservatory and participation to laboratories

Here we had the opportunity to listen to our the Italian students and teachers singing their beautiful traditional songs. Some of them were not songs from TV, but classics they may have heard their parents sing to celebrate Italia. We couldn’t help singing some lines with them, especially for those songs for which we were given the written lyrics.

“La Quadriglia” is a traditional Italian dance. They usually dance in pairs and everything is controlled by a dancing master who makes choreography / various pairs

Resting in the shadow of the Mt. Vesuvius, visiting Pompeii Italy is like taking a step back in time and a great opportunity to see an ancient city. The buildings, the frescoes, the streets, the pots, the bodies - everything has  been  well  preserved  for  nearly  2000  years  so  that  we  could  see  the  architectural  and  artistic underpinnings  of  the  best-preserved  city  of  Roman  times.  Within  these  walls  lie  information  about  the common artistic styles and practices of both the common and elite Roman citizens. It was a real history and art lesson for all of us. The information offered by the Italian students and teachers was also  of great help .

Thursday, 17th of March 2017Study visit to Rome; discussions

The fourth day of the mobility was entirely dedicated to visiting Rome.For thousands of years, Rome has been the capital to some of the most important empires and nations in history. Now it houses 12 of Italy’s 45 UNCESCO heritage sites including the Pantheon, the Coliseum, the Spanish Steps, St. Peter’s Square, Navona Square, etc.  Visiting Rome wasn’t an ordinary guided visit in this mobility. In groups, we had to discover it on our own. The time was short so we bought maps and set off fast. In the evening, we all gathered at the hotel and shared pictures and impressions on what we had seen.  The students made a map of Rome with the sights they visited entitled “All roads lead to Rome”. It included sights connected to the history, architecture and arts, food and people of the Eternal City. The sights mentioned on the map were: -Colosseum , considered to be the largest amphitheater in the entire Roman world-Arch of Constantine-St. Peter’s Basilica-Pantheon, the best preserved monument of ancient Rome -Vatican Museums-Trevi Fountain-Spanish Steps-Roman Forum, which served as its heart and as a venue for elections and speeches in ancient times.-Castel Sant’Angelo-Piazza del PopoloEven if our visit was  short and fast, it was such an amazing experience in itself.

STUDY VISIT TO THE LANCELLOTTI CASTLE IN LAURO

Lauro is a little town in the province of Avellino, Campania, Italy. It is known for the Lancellotti Castle, built in the 11th century in a beautiful panoramic position. The Castle is the building that symbolized Lauro, not only for its artistic value but also for its history. In 1632 it was bought by the Lancellotti family, who still own the Castle. Since our project focuses on culture and traditions, we want our students to visit the most outstanding cultural sights. This will help them gain knowledge related to history, customs and traditions, which will in turn help them with their personal and professional development. 

The workshops and trips helped attendees gained high-quality education under  Erasmus+  programme.  The  workshops  were  also  designed  to emphasise the importance of student-centred learning as a key focus in all Erasmus+ projects. In our case, students learned about Italian culture and tradition  (food,  dances,  music).  What  is  more,  students  from  different European countries worked together with the Italian students who do this in order  to get a  job  in  future,  so  they prepare  for  their  future  life. This motivated all the students who took part in the laboratories as authentic learning is real life learning that encourages students to create a tangible, useful  product  to  be  shared  with  their  world.  It  engages  all  the  senses allowing students to create a meaningful, useful, shared outcome.The  sights  seen  during  these  days  helped  both  students  and  teachers   make connection and gain historical and art knowledge of Italy, as well as improve their language skill.All activities - visits and laboratories, speaking in English with other people from other cultures - surely lead to improved student achievement using outcomes that matter to their future success. 

Evaluating the activities of this mobility

Certification

Mrs.  Marina  Petruci,  the headmistress  of  the  Italian school, met  the students and teachers  from  the  partner countries  and  handed  them the certificates . 

Discussion on dissemination of the results Dissemination of the project products has been discussed with all partners. We decided to use the following:*placing photos, impressions in the project website in English* placing photos, impressions in the school websites in native languages* informing the local authorities / school authorities about the project and its progress All partners confirmed once again their consent on equally contribution to the project website and keeping the project participants up-to-date with tasks and activities.

OUR FIRST LEARNING ACTIVITY WAS A SUCCESS

-The first Learning Activity of our Erasmus Project has been really productive and motivating for all the components involved. -This international experience had a positive impact on the personal development of the students and on intercultural understanding and foreign language proficiency, but also on their educational development. -We are also sure that this Erasmus experience will be beneficial for students to find their first job after graduation and for their early career.
