    the inside diaeter 6ID) re(ion o the -lloy 1&% weld clad beneath the low9alloy steel no::leaterial This circuerential crac* arrested when it reached the low9alloy steel base aterial-lthou(h not a si(niicant law in ters o structural inte(rity$ the =C +uer circuerentiallaw hei(htened the concern re(ardin( the potential or the e;istence o circuerential laws

    and their ipact on structural inte(rity

    In %003$ a sall lea* was disco#ered ro an -lloy 1&%7&% butt weld on a pressuri:er relieno::le at Tsuru(a % 6?apan) This lea* was ro an a;ial crac* in the butt weld between thelow9alloy steel no::le and the stainless steel relie #al#e line

    In sprin( %00$ Cal#ert Clis Nuclear Power Plant 6>nited +tates) identiied indications in a

    %9in 619) diaeter hot le( drain no::le D5W There were two a;ial indications containedentirely within the weld and butter closely associated with the ID$ located appro;iately 1&0@

    apart There was also one circuerential indication connected to the ID$ e;tendin(appro;iately 100@ in circuerence$ with one end oriented near one o the a;ial indications

    The circuerential indication has been deterined to be construction relatedA the a;ial

    indications are bein( attributed to PW+CC

    -;ial crac*s without associated lea*s ha#e been disco#ered in butt welds at Rin(hals 3 and ,$=C +uer$ Tsuru(a %$ and Three 5ile Island >nit 1 6>nited +tates) The only circuerential
