Discussion Tropospheric MissionSRON, 18 nov 2003
-- Update CAPACITY workshop / time schedule-- Update Post-MSG UV-VIS instrument
Michiel van Weele, KNMI
CAPACITY Chemistry Applications workshop 20+21 Jan at ESA-ESTEC Jointly organized with GMES-GATO final meeting Definition of workshop program; Speakers / working
groups: Air Quality protocols/ EU directives Kyoto and Montreal protocols Science: tropospheric applications Science: UTLS+stratospheric applications
Poster session: (mainly) capacity partners Jan – Jun 2004: setting level 2/3 data requirements
Post-MSG activities (2015+)
Mission Requirements Document (it should be there):“Specifications for a UV-VIS Hyperspectral Imager”
The document is based on:
Table of consolidated user requirements (2002) established at a workshop in 2002 and based on study by Lelieveld (paper copy)
Two UV-VIS studies: by Bremen (Bovensmann) and CSIRO (O Brien), respectively
Post-MSG activities
Choices that have been made by Eumetsat already:
- Five tropospheric gases remain to drive the UV-VIS-NIR chemistry instrument: CO, O3, NO2, SO2, CH2O
- CO2, CH4 out: “6h temporal resolution does not require geo instrument”
- Aerosols out: ‘is covered by other instrument study’
- H2O out: idem- Other gases: PAN requirements can not be met
Post-MSG activities
Option for a combination of the UV-VIS-SWIR bandswith Oxygen A band (from a separate study):
Four bands: 755, 761, 764 and 775 nmFWHM: 5,3,6,5 nmUnclear if these reqs. are set for: cloud/aerosol
detection, cloud-top/surface pressure determination or light path
Hor. Resolution: 3km (to fulfill the 10 km requirement)-----
