What if I need special accommodations?If you require special accommodations, please specify on the registration form and

contact the Community Center directly.

What if I need to bring something special?Special required items will be listed in the class or program descriptions. For any

additional questions, please feel free to contact the Community Center during regular business hours.

What if a class or program is cancelled?Customer requested refunds/transfers no later than 3 business days prior to the first

day of class. No refunds after first class. No refunds or make-ups for missed days. A processing fee of $7 will be charged for all cancellations after a registration has been processed. If minimum class size is not met by the Wednesday prior to the start of

class, the class may be cancelled. In the event that the District cancels a class, you will receive a full refund. Outdoor classes are cancelled in the event of lightning.

Dock Address SignsIf you didn’t take advantage of the Dock Sign Program the first time around, here’s your chance to put your address on your dock with a nice new sign that shows guests, and more importantly, first responders where you live. This provides immediate identification for police and/or fire personnel who might respond by water. Knowing the right address could be a life saver. Online Driver’s Ed Course(Ages 15+ yrs.)The DMV allows teens to receive their Learner’s Permit at age 15 1/2, and a license at age 16. This class is the FIRST, required step that must be completed. This is an online course with videos, animated driving scenarios, and sample test questions. Learn the rules of the road, major causes of traffic collisions, DMV procedures and much more. Senior Information & Assistance ProgramThe East County Aging and Adult Services Department provides local assistance to seniors aged 60+, adults with disabilities, and caregivers. Program sessions are by appointment only and cover a variety of topics including referrals and assistance to obtain services. (925) 229-8434

Meals on WheelsAre you 60 years of age or older, homebound and need assistance with daily meals? Call the “Meals on Wheels” program at (925) 625-4545.

Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP)HICAP provides free and objective counseling and advocacy services to families who need assistance with Medicare enrollment and with issues involving Medicare and associated insurance programs. For an appointment, call (925) 602-4168.

Contra Costa Crisis CenterCall 211 ~ Help starts here. A fast, free, and confidential service that can help with emergency food, rental assistance, healthcare, housing/shelter, senior services, utility assistance, job services, transportation and much, much more.

Registration begins May 2018The Discovery Bay Community Center is an official “Red Cross Authorized Provider”. Swim lessons are taught in compliance with Red Cross standards. Classes are typically two weeks in length, Monday through Thursday for 25 minutes each day. A complete description and schedule of class times will be listed in the Summer 2018 Activities Guide coming out in May!

Parent & Me Swim Lessons (Ages 6mo-2 yrs.)The Parent and Me swim lesson is designed with an emphasis on water adjustment and water fun.

Swim Lesson Level I (Ages 3-5 yrs.)This beginner class is designed for participants with little-to-no experience in the water.

Swim Lesson Level II (Ages 5-12 yrs.)This class will focus on breath control, submersion of body, front and back floats, basic kicks, correct arm motions, and swimming the length of the pool.

Swim Lesson Level III(Ages 5-12 yrs.)This class will focus on swimming the length of the pool with endurance.

Blended Learning Lifeguard Class(15+ yrs.)This new accelerate blended learning Lifeguard Program allows you to start your training right away, at your convenience, from any computer. After you register and pay for your class, you will receive via e-mail your online log-in credentials and you can begin your training. Your online training is interactive and engaging and includes videos, scenarios and games. You will also receive a link to the American Red Cross Lifeguard Manual so you can download it and read it prior to the start of your program. You’ll finish both these tasks prior to your in-person training with your instructor.CLASS PREREQUISITES: • Must be at least 15 years old and pass certain swimming

requirements: • 300-yd continuous swim using only front crawl (freestyle)

and breaststroke. • 2-minute tread using only your legs. • Timed event – swim and retrieve a 10-pound object from

a depth of 7-10 feet. • Return to the surface with object and exit the pool without

the use of ladder or stairs. Discovery Bay River Otters Swim Team (Ages 5-18 years)Entering its fifth season, The Discovery Bay River Otters (DBRO) is a Summer League Swim Team that is dedicated to providing quality amateur competitive swimming events for its members. The DBRO’s promotes good sportsmanship, swimming excellence, and self-esteem in all swimmers with an emphasis in individual progress, team unity, and family participation. The Discovery Bay River Otters do recommend that new swimmers must be able to complete one lap, unassisted across a 25yd pool. Swim practices will occur Monday – Thursday, April 2 – June 7, and then Monday – Friday from June 11 – July 20 during the season. We will be participating in Saturday morning dual meets with other local summer league swim teams, and ending our season July 21-22 at our league championship meet. Registration for returning swimmers and their families will be held January 2 – January 31. Remaining spots will open to the general public beginning February 5. Parties in the ParkLooking for a location to hold that large special event such as a Birthday Party, Graduation Party, Family Reunion or a Neighborhood Party? Securing a use permit entitles the user to priority over the general public. The following parks are available for hourly, half day (6 hours) or full day rentals. A refundable deposit is required.
