What is Co-op?
Co-op students are available for paid, four-month, work-terms every semester. Hiring an Algonquin College co-op student is a great way to access some of Ottawa’s top talent and future leaders. Co-op is a cost-effective way to address short-term staffing needs while evaluating potential employees for succession planning.

How do I hire?
1. Post
Email your job description to us, or fill out our online job posting form. Post jobs 3 - 4 months in advance to access the largest talent pool.
2. Review
Evaluate the applications we email you after your job closes and identify your top candidates.
3. Interview
Let us know who you would like to interview and our office will coordinate and schedule interviews.
4. Make an Offer
After the interview, let us know who you would like to hire and we will confirm with the student in 2 business days.
5. Finalize the Offer
Lastly, send us your confirmation of the start/end date, hours per week, rate of pay, supervisor name and contact details.
How do I onboard?
1. Provide a Supervisor
Ensure the student has a supervisor who they can work with throughout the semester.
2. Orientation
Conduct a short orientation to ensure the student understands the office culture, projects and expectations.
3. Provide Feedback
Like any new employee, provide regular feedback to help the student learn and improve their performance.
4. Work-term Consultation
During the work-term, you will be asked to evaluate the student’s progress in their role. This consultation allows for an in-person visit or a phone call.
5. Stay in touch
If you have questions, comments or concerns about your work-term, please do not hesitate to reach out, we are happy to help.
