Franschhoek ValleyBreath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world-class cuisine and fine wines: These are the hallmarks of the beautiful Franschhoek Valley in the heart of the Cape Winelands. When the Huguenots first settled in this spectacular valley over 300 years ago they bought with them their traditions and knowledge in winemaking and viticulture from their native France and transformed the wilderness around them into one of the most beautiful valleys in the world. This proud heritage can be seen and felt today in the Village and on the surrounding farms.

There are a variety of cellars, from small boutique wineries that cater for those in search of something unique, to large cellars that offer organised tours and conducted tastings. Award-winning wines range from plump reds to elegant whites and delicious sparkling wines. This longstanding tradition of winemaking is a perfect complement to the excellent food that is served in any one of Franschhoek’s more than 40 restaurants. Franschhoek is known as the Wine & Gourmet Capital of South Africa and has among its truly talented chefs several who have been awarded the highest national and international culinary honors.

Passengers on board the hop-on hop-off tour will experience a unique and leisurely way to see the Franschhoek Valley as they journey through rolling vineyards in an open-side tram and open-air tram-bus stopping in at some of South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished wine estates.

A combination of tram and tram-bus transports passengers around a loop of stops allowing them to hop-off at each stop and experience the activities on offer, be it wine tasting, a cellar tour, lunch or simply a stroll through the vineyards and when they are ready, hop-on to continue the tour. The experience takes passengers right into the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, with unparalleled views of the vineyards and a narration focusing on the history of Franschhoek and wine cultivation in the valley.

Driving Directions from Cape Town:• Take the N1 to Paarl• Take EXIT 47, the Klapmuts exit, from the highway then turn right onto the R44• Continue straight to the second set of traffic lights• Turn left onto the Klapmuts – Simondium road• Travel until you meet a T-junction at Vrede and Lust wine estate• Turn right onto the R45 towards Franschhoek• Continue on the R45 until arriving in Franschhoek Village• The ticket office is located on the main road in Franschhoek Village

• Passenger safety is our utmost priority and any passengers exhibiting signs of intoxication will be asked to leave the tour immediately

• The tour boards at the Franschhoek Wine Tram ticket office located in the Franschhoek Village

• Tickets are issued with a specific departure date and time when purchased

• Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time

• The tram or tram-bus passes each stop per the timetable on the reverse

• The tour operates in one direction and passengers will have only one opportunity to disembark at each stop

• Upon return to the ticket office the tour ends

• On the rare occasion passengers may be required to wait for the next tram or tram-bus

• Comfortable walking shoes, hat, sunglasses and sun protection cream are recommended

• Franschhoek Wine Tram now offers an exclusive and direct transfer service from Cape Town and surrounds (including the airport) out to Franschhoek at an affordable rate.

• Transfers are private to each booking, direct door-to-door, include a return transfer and can be arranged to accommodate an extended stay over in Franschhoek at no additional cost
