Back by popular demand, Bob Doster, a local artist known best for his metal work through this region, will work with your child to design and create their own metal sculpture! Ever wonder how we got to the Happily Ever After in traditional fairy tales? Students will explore a few fairy tales
from different points of view and engage in activities to investigate solutions for each fairy tale’s obstacles. In
the Twisted Fairy Tales Program, we will design a getaway vehicle for the heroine from Kate and the Beanstalk,
help The Three Billy Goats Fluff devise a method to cross the bridge quietly and not wake the Troll, and construct
an edible reef entirely from candy to protect The Three Little Fish from the Big Bad Shark! Join us as we explore

of islands, escaping from a bunker on Mt. Everest, and even building a rocket to land on the moon! Through
application of engineering principles, students solve numerous challenges as they make their virtual world of

ENGINEERING FOR KIDS: MINECRAFTEDU REDSTONE Ages 8-14
MinecraftEDU is an expansive game that lets players design and create unique worlds with amazing structures.
One of the more complicated aspects of MinecraftEDU is Redstone, which is MinecraftEDU’s version of electrical
circuitry. This program will introduce students to the many uses of Redstone through a Medieval themed
adventure of creation, exploration, and castle besieging, with students making mine cart tracks to help them
gather resources, working together to build their kingdom, and designing traps to defend their castle, all with the
use of Redstone. Registration closes Monday, July 9.

JUMPBUNCH SPORTS® – FITNESS CHALLENGE CAMP Ages 5-8 & 9-12
Fun Fitness Challenges and Games is what this Camp is all about! Every camper participates in several 60 second
challenges such as chicken pops, kooshie ball, cup and catch, bucket head, whipper snapper, clip board pong, inch
worm race, eggs on a roll, fling and fly, knock out ball, flying discs, obstacle course, and many more! This camp is
similar to the popular TV show, “Minute to Win it”! Teamwork and sportsmanship is encouraged during this camp.
This is one of our most popular camps because although campers are being active, these challenges are seen as
fun games rather than actual exercise. This is a very active camp, so make sure to send campers with a water

Campers will play Olympic Games with an international focus! Campers will learn about and participate in Olympic
Sports centering on the following countries: Australia, China, Italy, Brazil, Russia, Jamaica, Great Britain, Germany,
and of course the USA! Some of the Olympic Sports taught include gymnastics, volleyball, field hockey, ice hockey,
basketball, badminton, golf, track and field, football (soccer), tennis, and handball. This is a fantastic international
camp, that educated children about the top Olympic medaling countries, and teaches them a sport in which each
country excels. All children will receive a JumpBunch T-Shirt on the first day of camp and an official JumpBunch
medal on the last day of camp. We encourage children to wear appropriate fitness clothing/shoes, and to bring a

We provide all athletic equipment needed for every child at camp. Our highly educated JB Sports coaches bring

This camp is all about training to be your favorite superhero! To be a super hero means having strength, agility,
balance, and speed. We focus on learning special superhero training skills through fun games and activities such
as “jumping over hot lava,” “dodging fireballs,” “lightsaber training,” “scooter flying,” “ghostbuster tag,” and so
many more! Being a superhero also means having a compassion for society, a kind heart, and a willingness to do
good and help others. These are qualities we discuss and talk about with our campers. This camp really
encourages campers to be a superhero in everyday life! All children will receive a JumpBunch T-Shirt on the first

Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO® parts! Build a motorized walking Creeper, a terrifying Ghast, and a motorized Minecart! His project-based camp, design by Play-Well instructors, combines the basic format of our core engineering-themed programs based on the world of Minecraft. Students will explore real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture while building their favorite Minecraft objects. Students will have a blast, even without any prior experience with Minecraft or LEGO® materials.

PRESCHOOL DAY CAMP Ages 3.6-4 & 5-6
Are you looking for that something extra for your preschooler? Try our Preschool Day Bucket List Camps with arts, crafts, outdoor play, and water time. Children will be swimming indoors on Tuesdays and Thursdays with outdoor water play on Fridays so pack a swim bag containing a towel. PLEASE wear swim suit under clothes on those days. Each child needs to bring a nutritious snack. Campers need to wear close toed shoes and sunscreen daily as we will be doing outside activities. Velcro tennis shoes are great! Each camp is limited to 16 children. Children must have turned 3 before January 1, 2018 and must be potty trained.

READING GIRAFFE Ages 3-6
Children naturally like to read. But they LOVE to read when stories come to life! Developed and hosted by local author (and coach) Derick Wilder, Reading Giraffe is the place where books run wild! We’ll include some of the most creative and fun children’s stories, from the classics to popular present-day reads to Derick’s own works. We combine interactive read-aloud with spelling exercises, creative craft projects, mini-plays and energetic games, all based on the storylines and characters we read about. We will include a StoryWalk© behind the YMCA, an exciting concept that combines a nature hike with reading a children’s story! Camp essentials include a drink, healthy snack, sneakers, sun block and a hat, as we will include some outdoor activities. **Sign up for Playball on same week, bring a lunch and eat with your Coach.

SCUBA CAMP Ages 10-15
Kids can experience what SCUBA diving is like under the direct care and supervision of Certified SCUBA Instructors. Camper should be comfortable in the water, being able to swim at least the length of the swimming pool. Campers will learn to snorkel first and then they will take their first breath underwater and learn about and use SCUBA diving equipment. All equipment is supplied. Safety and correct learning are emphasized at Jr. SCUBA Camp while encouraging kids to explore the underwater world. This camp will not certify your camper as a SCUBA diver. SIGN LANGUAGE CAMP Ages 6-17
Have you ever wanted to learn sign language? Do you like to talk with your hands? If your answer is “Yes!” come and join this camp. American Sign Language is the fourth most used language in the United States. Research has shown that learning a manual language can have numerous benefits such as increased overall vocabulary and language comprehension, stronger visual-spatial reasoning skills and improved communication abilities. This beginning sign language workshop is for those individuals (or families) with little or no background in American Sign Language. Participants will learn the alphabet, numbers, basic sign vocabulary and be introduced to elements of ASL grammar and Deaf Culture. Skills will be reinforced through classroom activities and games. Coach Abe Senbel’s Soccer Summer Camp is a great opportunity to introduce kids to the beautiful game of soccer. The camp is well structured and focuses on building and improving technical skills such as ball control, striking, dribbling; tactical awareness such as attacking, marking opponents, tackling and shielding; and physical development such as speed, agility and strength. Art is all around us, including on phones and online! Join Young Rembrandts for a workshop mimicking the amazing imagery of our Favorite Apps and Video Games! Every day students will learn new illustration and coloring techniques inspired by popular video games. Artwork is inspired by pixel block characters, plants, zombies, and many more classic apps and games. If your child loves to game or draw, they’ll have a blast putting their own personal touches on some of these favorites!

YOUNG REMBRANDTS: MEDIEVAL PRINCESSES Ages 6-12
Join us for five days of beautiful medieval pageantry! We will draw portraits showcasing medieval head ware, explore medieval clothing, learn basic figure drawing, and illustrate medieval-themed fashion accessories. On the last day of class, we will combine all of our new skills and create a large, wonderfully detailed scene of a queen and her ladies in waiting. It’s a fashion runway from the Middle Ages!

YOUNG REMBRANDTS: HORSES, HORSES AND MORE HORSES Ages 6-12
Five fun-filled days await our students as we explore the wonderful world of horses. Horses are not only graceful
and majestic animals, but they are also excellent subjects to draw and color. In our Young Rembrandts Horse
Drawing Workshop, students will learn how to draw horses of all shapes, sizes, and styles. We’ll use different
media to create colorful compositions which help our students strengthen their coloring skills. On the final day,
we will create a large drawing with pastels. Challenging drawings reward our students with a greater sense of
accomplishment. Please wear a smock to the final day.

YOUNG REMBRANDTS: AFRICAN SAFARI Ages 6-12
Go on a Safari adventure with Young Rembrandts this summer! We will explore the exciting land and many
animals that inhabit Africa. In five days, we will draw a variety of animals in various scenes with different media.
To keep things exciting, we will explore the African Safari through the fun technique of cartooning as well. We
will even challenge our artistic talents by creating 2 large scenes – one in a graphic style filled with a variety of
animals and another focusing on the twists and turns of an African snake completed with pastel chalks. Our
exploration through Africa allows for a bounty of adventure and creativity.

YOUNG REMBRANDTS: EGYPTIAN WORLD Ages 6-12
This summer, explore the mysterious world of Egypt with Young Rembrandts! We will spend five days digging
into how the Egyptians lived. We will investigate decorative objects in the treasured tombs including sarcophagi,
hieroglyphics and more. We will create drawings full of artifacts and Egyptian imagery using a variety of media,
including markers, color pencils, Sharpies™ and more. Our final day will consist of a large drawing using pastel
chalk. Please wear an old shirt or smock to the final day of class.

PAYMENT AND CANCELLATION POLICY FOR CAMPS
Transfers from one camp to another may be processed within two weeks in advance of any camp with a $10 Service Fee.
Cancellations made 14 days prior to start of camp will receive a refund minus $25 cancellation fee.
Camps cancelled within 13 days or less of start of camp may not receive any part of a refund unless the camp spot can be filled. If camp can be filled, a refund minus $25 cancellation fee will be processed.
Reservations for camps are made in person at the Fort Mill YMCA, 857 Promenade Walk, Fort Mill, or online beginning January 2, 2018. Full payment is due at the time of application by cash, check, or credit card. Checks should be made payable to Fort Mill YMCA or Upper Palmetto YMCA
Online Registration is available beginning January 2, 2018. Please check website (www.upymca.org) for instructions to login for first time users.
There is a $30 fee (or maximum allowed) on all returned checks.
Once camp has started, no refunds are available for any reason. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. To receive the member rate, memberships with the YMCA must remain current through the completion of camp.
