However, to promote a learning environment for all participants, we ask your cooperation with the following: Quiet nursing babies in arms are welcome but we regret that we cannot allow babies older than 6 months or any strollers in the conference room. We respectfully ask moms to sit near an exit and attend immediately to any situation that may distract others, including happy noises. If attempts to quiet your infant are unsuccessful, please leave the session and return when the infant is settled.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center

Dr. Geraghty is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the
University of Cincinnati and is the medical director of the
Cincinnati Children’s Center for Breastfeeding Medicine. In
addition to her general pediatric practice, Dr. Geraghty oversees
three Breastfeeding Medicine Clinic locations and sees breastfeeding mother-child dyads
two days a week. Dr. Geraghty conducts “hands on” breastfeeding teaching with medical
students and residents and serves as a clinical resource for regional health care providers.
Dr. Geraghty helped found the Cincinnati Children’s Research Human Milk Bank and
created the Cincinnati Children’s Milk Donor Depot program. Dr. Geraghty’s research
program has always focused on the barriers to successful breastfeeding outcomes. Dr.
Geraghty’s current focus is on the prevalent practice of breast milk pumping and the
potential implications on mothers and infants related to this practice, including milk sharing.

Ginna is on the adjunct faculty of the University of
Washington, Bastyr University, and Evergreen Perinatal
Education. She has been an IBCLC since 1987. She led the
University of Washington Medical Center to Baby Friendly recognition in 2009. She
founded their lactation program 25 years ago and continues as coordinator of Lactation
Services. Ginna has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Human Lactation
and on the IBLCE exam committee. She was a finalist in the Nurse Excellence
Award for Teaching, NurseWeek, August 2005, received the March of Dimes Nurse
of the Year Distinguished Career Award in December 2006 and the Breastfeeding
Coalition of Washington Spirit of Service Award in May 2007. Ginna wrote the first
Breastfeeding Nursing Diagnoses for North American Nursing Diagnosis Association
in 1990, and has contributed chapters to books such as Newborn Intensive Care.
Her articles have been published in JHL, JOGNN, and Birth.
