Rare or Exotic Aircraft Model: My Definition

A Rare or Exotic Aircraft Model is a model that is not well known, it has typically a limited run, had some major or sometimes insignificant contribution to aeronautical progress, or it is just too interesting and challenging to ignore as a modeling theme.

Why Modeling Rare or Exotic Aircraft?

• Modeling Rare aircraft is challenging and allows for lots of creativity.

• Only bounded by your skills and drive for competition.

• Modeling these aircraft perpetuates their value and important contributions to the progress of aeronautics

• They are educational

• They are eye catching

Common Characteristics of Rare Aircraft Kits

• Limited Run (some of them are hard to find)

• Expensive (due to limited runs)

• Resin or Vacuum Form kits are common, but available on injection molded kits too

• Foreign kits manufacturers are also common

• Limited selection of decals or minimum decals included

• Limited scale (most available scales are 1/72)

• Not heavy on detail

• Box art is not the best and packaging is sometimes minimal

• Recommended only for experienced modelers
