Letter of Reflection
I learned many things from the disciplinary report assignment such as creating
professional emails, conducting an interview, outlining profiles of interviewees, and designing
a document using Microsoft Word. Honestly, I never took into consideration the benefits ofspeaking to people who had knowledge of my intended major. I also learned how to address
my audience and the different tones to consider when writing. I kind of had trouble finding a
student to interview during the process because I am unfamiliar with the students on the
campus.
Creating the professional email was very beneficial because I learned how to address
someone in a professional manner which initiates a better response. Actually, the professor
that I interviewed complimented me on the email that I sent requesting to speak with her. She
said that it was very professional and precise. I was a little nervous about interviewing the 3
people required because I had never conducted an interview with me being the interviewer.
Typing a list of questions for the interview was most helpful because it guided me through the
interview. The power points that we created relating to each topic helped me to organize the
things that I planned on discussing within my report.
I was unaware of how much a document could be designed with the use of MicrosoftWord prior to this assignment. I learned how to make a table of contents and update it
automatically, insert graphics, and modify headings. I discovered ways to emphasize important
words and topics within my report by using bold, italics, and different fonts. Each element
involved with designing my document increased the chances of grabbing the attention of the
reader visually.
Learning how to set a tone in order to address my audience helped me to decide
appropriate content and relevant information to place within my report. I decided to use aninformal tone in an effort to put the reader at ease. I asked questions in order to engage the
audience and examples that everyone could relate to.

The peer review was a little helpful because I received a little feedback regarding my
designs, format, and content. I was given advice as to what to remove or elaborate on. Peer
review allowed me to understand how my information was received and interpreted. I learned
how to find mistakes in my own paper by revising the work of others and making suggestions.Overall, I found this assignment to be very helpful because not only did I learn how to
create a disciplinary report; I also gained insightful information regarding my major. I received
facts as well as opinions relating to social work.
