The Story
Waste and impact on theenvironment and how
buying Dirtball productswill help keep plastic out of
Landfills and free up largeareas of greenbelt land for
agricultural farming.
It takes 1/3 lb of agriculturalchemicals to produce 1standard cotton t-shirt.
Cotton requires 22,000litres of water to produce
1 kilogram of cotton lintmaking it the most fresh
water intensive crop inthe world.
Cotton uses some 25% ofthe world’s insecticides,
even though it is grown on2.4% of the world’s land.
Cotton plants absorb mostof the soils natural minerals,
once a cotton crop hasfinished virtually all nutrients
have been extracted fromthe soil.
3 billion plastic bottlesrecycled is the equivalentof saving over half a millionbarrels of oil and eliminating400,000 tons of harmful airemissions which contributeto acid rain, global warmingand smog.
Recycling post-consumercotton helps to keep 5billion pounds of waste fromgoing into U.S. landfills.
By buying fabric made withrecycled cotton, we reducethe effects of insecticidesand other chemicals in oursoil, air and water tables.
Recycled cotton doesn’t usethe same level of manuallabor or land use that isrequired for conventionallygrown cotton.

The Process
The process involvesbundling 1000’s of plastic
bottles, separating coloursand chopping the materialinto fine flakes. These are
then melted down andextruded into yarn andblended with recycled
cotton scraps from postproduction sources.
The end result is a fabricthat can vary in compostion
from 50% Cotton 50%plastic to 100% Plastic
which is branded asGreenspun*.
Every Dirtball T shirtcontains at least 2 x 500mlplastic water bottles and ourShorts contain a minimumof 60 plastic bottles.
Dirtball strive to make allour products from 100%recycled materials fromthe fabric through to thebuttons, labels, swing tagsand even the thread that isused to stitch our garmentstogether.
