    Russell Memorial United Methodist Church is seeking a part-time Director of Student Ministries tooversee all ministries to students in grades 6-12 and their parents.     Position: Director of Student Ministries

    Hours Required: 10-15 hours/week, with increase in summer due to trips and special events

    Accountable To: Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee

    General Responsibility: Plan, coordinate, and implement ministries to students in grades 6-12, and their families.

    Detailed Responsibilities

    Personal Life and Witness:The Director of Student Ministries shall profess and demonstrate a personal commitment to Jesus

    Christ as Lord and Savior, evidencing both desire and effort to grow in this relationship. He or she shallstrive to the highest standards of ethical and moral behavior at all times, as befits a disciple of Jesus Christ.

    Programming:The Director of Student Ministries, with the assistance of the Youth Coordinator, shall provide

    programming for students in grades 6-12. This programming shall include a minimum of two weeklygatherings for fellowship and teaching: Sunday school and youth group. Also included shall be a minimumof one service/mission oriented event, and one event for fun and fellowship per quarter each fall, winter,

    and spring, and a minimum of one each per month June-August.The Director of Student Ministries shall be visible in the wider life of the congregation, attending andparticipating, as directed by the pastor, in all worship services, as well as other church-wide activitiesincluding, but not limited to angel tree, back-to-school fair, monthly pot-lucks, church picnics, and VBS.

    The Director of Student Ministries shall promote and participate in quadrant, district, and conferenceactivities of the Mineola ACTS Quadrant of the Northwest District of the Texas Annual Conference, andtheir successors. This shall include, but is not limited to, annual events such as summer camp, mid-winter retreats, and confirmation retreat at Lakeview, UM ARMY, and Big House, as well as any district or quadrant youth events. These events shall fulfill the minimum requirements listed above.

    All programming content shall be subject to the review and approval of the pastor.

    Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination:The Director of Student Ministries shall work closely with the Youth Coordinator to recruit and

    coordinate volunteers to assist in the congregations ministry to students. These may include Sundayschool teachers, chaperones for youth events, drivers, food/snack preparers and servers, and youth groupcounselors.

    The Director of Student Ministries shall be responsible for ensuring all volunteers working withstudents are safe sanctuary trained and approved. The Director must maintain his or her own safe

    sanctuary status, and shall be equipped to provide safe sanctuary training for all volunteers working withyouth and children under the age of 18 through the auspices of Russell Memorial United Methodist Church.

    Relationship-Building:Understanding that relationship lies at the heart of all Christian ministry, especially ministry to

    students, the Director of Student Ministries shall work to develop relationships with students and their families and the congregation. This shall include clear, timely planning and communication of all studentministry related events, monthly calendars of events, and articles in the church newsletter. This may alsoinclude, but is not limited to, school lunch visits and attendance at sporting events.

    Given the nature of student culture today, the Director of Student Ministries shall be, or shall becomeknowledgeable in the use of social media. This shall include but is not limited to the regular maintenance ofa RMUMC Student Ministries Facebook page, Twitter account, and Instagram account, as vital means ofcommunication to and with students.

    In order to establish and maintain clear, professional boundaries, it shall be understood that anyactivity placing the Director of Student Ministries in contact with students shall be construed as related tohis or her work as Director of Student Ministries, and shall therefore be subject to all safe sanctuaryrequirements.

    Budget:The Director of Student Ministries, in conjunction with the Youth Coordinator and the Finance

    Committee, shall develop an annual budget for the student ministries of Russell Memorial United

    Methodist Church. This responsibility may include coordinating fundraising events, to supplement whatmay be provided through the general budget of the church.The Director of Student Ministries shall be reimbursed for ministry-related expenses, including but not

    limited to, mileage reimbursements, registration fees for events attended, and monies spent on suppliesfor youth activities.
