Director of Philanthropy Job Description January 2018 Director of Philanthropy JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Philanthropy oversees and directs all fundraising events, donor relations, major gifts, capital campaigns and other fund development efforts. The Director also plans and coordinates all philanthropic and development related marketing and communications. This is a leadership position with managerial and board relations responsibilities. The Director supervises the Communications Associate and is supervised by the CEO. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Development Work closely with the CEO and Resource Development Committee to execute fund development goals, programs and plans. Responsible for the research and analysis of individual donors and prospects in order to develop strategies for gift acquisition and/or growth. Plan, develop, and execute strategies for obtaining private donations; identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects (individuals, corporations, and foundations). Maintain and oversee gift acknowledgment programs. Oversee donor database and reporting; maintain foundation, corporation, and individual donor files. Conceptualize and implement donor appreciation and cultivation events and activities. Manage annual and special fundraising campaigns, events, and activities. Supervise efforts to identify, solicit, steward, maintain, and upgrade annual donors. Create monthly fundraising reports and other database reports as needed. Oversee production and mailing of all fundraising appeals, annual reports, and other donor correspondence. Design and continuous improvement of systems for capturing the contact information of the friends of The Advocates, including donors, event attendees, in-kind donors, and donors to The Attic. Direct the planning of the annual fundraising event. Manage the development and communications staff, including hiring, firing, evaluating, and other human resource issues associated with these employees. Communications Oversee all print, online and other donor and development related advertising to ensure appropriate messaging and professional presentation. Write or oversee writing & submission of press releases and other public relations materials for appropriate stories and interest pieces related to donor communications. Conceptualize and oversee production of all donor and development related marketing materials, including brochures, posters and other print media. Ensure website is donor center and donor pages are regularly updated, and that content and presentation are consistent with organization image and messaging. Produce and distribute regular donor center e-newsletters.
