Directions
Remember there are the four main directions we deal with on maps or with compasses.
Remember…The sun rises in the EAST and sets in
the WEST. If we know where these directions are, we can quickly find NORTH and SOUTH.
All good maps show NORTH.
Do you remember the little phrase to help us remember North, East, South and West?
Never Eat Soggy Weet-bix.
Quiz1. If the front of the classroom is NORTH, point to which direction is EAST.
Quiz2. If the front of the classroom is NORTH, stand up and face SOUTH.
Quiz3. You are currently facing SOUTH, turn 90 degrees in a clockwise motion. Which direction are you facing?
Well done! Now that I am sure you have a good
understanding, I’m going to put your
knowledge into practice and get you to do a
worksheet.
Remember, all good maps show NORTH and
when we are dealing with directions on maps
we always start at the place mentioned after
the word ‘from’.
e.g. What direction is Sydney from Brisbane? We
start at Brisbane.
