Why Choose LiveDrive?

The Live PTO option on Ford Super Duty trucks has opened a world of possibilities for truck upfitters. However, the four wheel drive transfer case is an obstacle to straight line PTO shafts. DIRECTDRIVE PLUS has solved this interference, by modifying the transfer case to allow the PTO shaft to pass through it. This allows full PTO potential to be utilized on a four wheel drive truck. The 1.25” shaft included in the kit, extends to the rear of the transfer case allowing the customer to power a variety of shaft-driven components. The system allows the below-deck equipment to fully utilize the horsepower and torque available from Chelsea or Muncie PTO Units.

Take advantage of live PTO

The Ford live PTO allows for either stationary and/or mobile mode (Work and Roll). A live PTO is preferred for certain application such as fire trucks, plow trucks, salt trucks, sweeper trucks, gen-erators, or whenever PTO power is need while the truck is driving.

Why Choose RAMDRIVE?

RAM offers either a right side PTO port or a Left side PTO port on the AISIN transmission. The left side PTO port is preferred when equipment is mounted under-deck and needs to be PTO shaft driven. The left side of the truck is not obstructed by the Exhaust Emission system. On 4X4 truck the transfer case interferes with routing a shaft to the under-deck equipment. DIRECTDRIVE PLUS has solved this difficulty by modifying the transfer case to allow a shaft to pass through the transfer case. The 1.25” shaft included in the kit, extends to the rear of the transfer case allowing the cus-tomer to power a variety of shaft-driven components. The system allows the below-deck equip-ment to fully utilize the horsepower and torque available from the PTO unit.

QUESTION and ANSWER

How does the DIRECTDRIVE PLUS system work?

The four wheel drive transfer case included in the DIRECTDRIVE PLUS kit has a fixed tube installed through a void space in the transfer case. The PTO drive-line shaft is attached to the transmission mounted PTO with a universal joint and routed through the transfer case. The shaft is supported at the rear of the transfer case with an external flange bearing.

How is a live PTO different from other PTO’s?

The Ford LIVE PTO is driven by the engine and is unaffected by transmission gear selection. PTO operation is available when-ever the engine is running. Non-live PTOs’ on automatic transmissions are driven by the transmission torque converter turbine. When the truck is placed into gear, the turbine stops turning resulting in a loss of PTO function.

Is the RAM PTO live?

The RAM PTO is not live. The RAM PTO is turbine driven. (see above question) In some applications a turbine-driven PTO is preferable.

How or Where do I purchase a DirectDrive Plus kit?

What is Ship Thru?

DIRECTDRIVE PLUS has agreements with Ram and Ford factory approved equipment installers near the chassis manufacturing plants. When the truck is ordered a divert code is entered with the order. The chassis is diverted to the equipment installer who installs the DIRECTDRIVE PLUS PTO kit and returns it to the factory. The factory then ships the chassis to the selling dealer. The chassis arrives at the dealer with the DirectDrive PLUS system installed. Contact DIRECTDRIVE PLUS for divert codes.

Can I install the DIRECTDRIVE kit?

Absolutely. Installing the kit requires basic tools and mechanical skills. Most truck body builders or Ford/Ram truck dealers will be comfortable installing the kit themselves. We recommend allowing four hours for the first installation. Shops familiar with these types of installations will be able to install the kit in less than three hours.

What happens to the take-out transfer case?

The take-out transfer case is returned to DIRECTDRIVE in the shipping container your kit arrives in. The core charge will be refund-ed when the take-out transfer case is received at the DIRECTDRIVE factory.

What if my truck has some mileage on it already?

If your truck has more than 1000 miles on it, contact DIRECTDRIVE at (610)-273-9937 and we will help you find the correct option for your truck.

What happens to the OEM warranty?

We will replace the OEM warranty with our OEM-equivalent warranty. (5yr/100,000 for Ram, 5yr/ 60,000 for Ford) The transmis-sion, drive shafts, etc. will continue to be covered under the OEM warranty policy. As with many OEM warranties, coverage is subject to individual dealer interpretation.
