Direct Your Digital Footprint

Know who you are in the digital world.Everyone is searchable on the Web.

What does your digital footprint tell the world about you?

Will searchers discover inaccurate or inappropriate information?

Page 3: Direct your digital footprint

Direct Your Digital FootprintGoogle yourself to learn what others will discover about you. Will searchers discover a true depiction of who you are?

Will they see pictures of a teacher so dedicated to work that she takes her laptop camping?

Or will searchers learn that you can only fix connection problems while using a combat knife after drinking a lot of beer?

A great way to begin is to create a social bookmarking library to organize online resources. Make your site public so it will appear in your name search.

Join professional learning networks (PLN’s). After you are comfortable in this environment, read and respond to what other educators post.

Design your own classroom blog and post your students products. Make sure that your students do not use their full names on posted works.

Use your real name to maintain integrity and sincerity.

Use your full name to avoid confusion with others who have a similar name.

Your blog and PLN posts will become a part of your digital footprint. It’s a good idea to keep this in mind when writing your responses.
