2015 Wow!

January is the time for our Designer Clearance Sale. This is a very different sale, as our aim is to make room for new stock due in February. We‟re not buying/moving frames in for this sale (not saying others do….) so once the bargains have gone they are gone! Highlights are forty Oakley and Ray-ban sunglasses and frames at up to 50% off, plus other brands such as CK, Hackett, Nike, Converse, Booth and Bruce and Anna Sui. We will restock these brands in February as they are so popular, but with 2015 designs. But for now, get in early to catch a bargain Ray-Ban Wayfarer, or Oakley Plutonium for your ski holiday. One particular stand out is William Morris. This is one of the spectacle brands that great opti-cian‟s practices aspire to hold. It‟s selling well on the Wells Road but I want to introduce more people to great frame design, so we‟re going to use the sale to promote this wonderful eye wear. Again only in January and only with the styles we have in.

What else is new in 2015 in eye care? We have new specialist clinics on the way: watch this space next month! There is so much R&D in the contact lenses that we know we can fit contact lenses to many people who have been told their eyes aren't suitable for contact lenses. We also know if you've struggled finding the right glasses: whether it be frame fit or struggling with varifocals, our expert team can help. The right lens for your lifestyle matters…we promise to get this spot on for you. We promise you will be: Delighted with how well you See Delighted with you Look Delighted with how your spectacles Feel Delighted with your Easy vision Delighted with the Price I know we have lived up to this promise in 2014 and would like to use my sign off to thank the team on the Wells Road: Robyn, Conner, Katie, Sylvie, Barb and Tash deserve the national ac-colades for their continued development. Thank you also for the great feedback we have had throughout 2014 year and for the privilege of providing your local eye care. We appreciate that you have a choice with your eye care and that our closest competitors are three giant multina-tional companies. It is humbling therefore to be still growing in our fifteenth year. Thank you Lynne and Gerard Fernandes

It seems every day has a name right now! Way before Christmas Day and Boxing Day, we‟ve had Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday. Last month Black Friday saw the sales start early, with frantic shoppers out in the shops to grab a Christmas bargain. Police were called out as shoppers went mad looking to save money on their Christmas shopping, but why? In the United States, Thanksgiving is always on the fourth Thursday in November. This means that most Americans use this day to get their Christmas shopping done early. Many shop owners offer massive discounts to encourage people to buy from them. Some shops make their biggest sales in the whole year on this day, because of the large number of shoppers!

Now more shops in the UK are starting to offer similar deals to attract more and more customers, hoping to make bigger and bigger sales. These sales have led to herds of humans stampeding around the shops, with police struggling to control them. Cyber Monday was the busiest online shopping day of the year, with shoppers spending at a rate of £7000 a second.

Speaking on Cyber Monday, businessman Dan Wagner said that shops must take on new technologies to compete with online shopping. He points to his own idea - PowaTag, which allows shoppers to walk up to an item or retails display and buy the product with a touch of their smartphone screen. Cyber Monday was followed by Giving Tuesday - a global day of giving. The idea was for people to come together to show the world why it‟s good to give. Whether it‟s making a donation, volunteering your time, just spreading the word. Giving Tuesday was a call to action from the Charities Aid Foundation for everyone who wants to give something back.

For the first time in forever (get?), Disney‟s Frozen has been named the most successful animation of all time, and it‟s soundtrack is 2014‟s most successful album. Who hasn‟t got Let It Go stuck in their head at some point this year? Well, it‟s no wonder, as the soundtrack for Disney‟s Frozen has been named the top selling album of 2014. The Official Charts Company has revealed that the soundtrack, which features the hits Let It Go, Love Is An Open Door and For The First Time In Forever, has sold 708,000 copies in the UK alone. In addition to this feat, the film was recently named the most successful animation film of all time, overtaking rival hit Toy Story 3.

Frozen has also recently made it into the top ten highest grossing films of all time. These ten films have earned more money then any other films in history…

January is a time when lots of people decide to get in shape and anyone thinking about slimming down this New Year will find incredible inspiration in one of our local Slimming World Groups. Lots of people make a New Year‟s resolution to lose weight at the beginning of the year and now, thanks to the support of local Slimming World group so can you in 2015 and feel fantastic. Many people try very hard to lose weight but can often struggle and be left feeling hungry and deprived, and then fail, often end up regaining the weight lost – and more – and then give up. Sarah a local consultant said, at her heaviest she had health problems, mobility problems, low self-confidence and more. It was in January that Sarah decided to do something about her size once and for all, and joined her local Slimming World group. Sarah says: “I was really nervous about walking into the group that first time, I figured there would be lots of new people joining the group as it was January and hoped I‟d be able to blend into the background and not have to speak to anyone. Now I find it funny that I was so scared because I got such a warm welcome and I soon realised there was nothing to be worried about because we were all in the same boat – we all just wanted to lose weight. I honestly haven‟t looked back since that day. I look forward to going to group every week now, it‟s my „me‟ time and I wouldn‟t miss it for the world.” She couldn‟t believe it when her consultant explained how Slimming World‟s Food Optimising healthy eating plan worked and she discovered that she could eat lots of everyday foods without weighing and measuring, as well as still enjoying her favourite treats in moderation. Sarah adds: “I was really dubious it would work for me at first and in my first week I thought „there was no way I‟m going to lose weight eating all this‟ as I hadn‟t felt hungry or like I‟d missed out at all, but now I‟m 2st 7lbs lighter. It‟s not a diet, just a healthy way of eating that I know I can keep up for the rest of my life.” Changing her eating habits and become more active hasn‟t only transformed Sarah on the outside, she feels like a new woman on the inside too. She says: “I might have lost weight but I‟ve also gained so much more. I feel happier, healthier and have loads more confidence. I can‟t believe the difference in me – and neither can my family and friends. I would recommend Slimming World to anyone who‟s thinking about trying to lose weight this New Year, after all, if I can do it anyone can!” Sarah Bryant, who runs Slimming World groups herself now in Hengrove and Whitchurch, says she‟s extremely proud of what she has achieved . She says: “I'm proof that if you make small, manageable changes the way you cook and eat and get the right support it is possible to make your New Year‟s resolutions a reality. It makes me feel sad to think that so many people will embark on unhealthy, restrictive plans this January because I know that they won‟t be able to keep them up for longer than a few days or weeks, so they‟ll soon be right back where they started and feeling like a failure when actually it‟s the programme they‟ve chosen that‟s failed them. I hope Sarah inspires people in to choose Slimming World this New Year, and everyone‟s guaranteed a warm welcome at their group.”

To join Slimming World group simply pop along or call Sarah Bryant on 07879 443888 for more information.

What is Detoxification? It is a natural physiological process of the body that neutralises and eliminates unwanted materials and toxic waste through the major organs such as our colon, liver, kidney, lungs, lymph and skin. It is designed to support our health and has been used to promote health in cultures around the world for thousands of years.

Why do we need to Detox ? Because of the way we live our lives today and the modern environment this all adds additional burdens to the body and its natural processes to detoxification can be overwhelmed. Like any other hardworking system, it needs periodic rest to continue to function efficiently.

How will I fill on a Detox? Depending on how you currently live your live and what you put into your body will depend on how you will feel when you eliminate food groups from your normal eating plan. Generally any sluggishness, headaches or irritability passes after the first week. Remember to drink lots of water to help to flush your system.

What else makes Detox Easier? Sleep; yes believe is or not, this is one of the most important things. Lack of sleep is one of the biggest causes of why people do not stick to an eating plan. Opting, for quick fixes because they are tired. Reset your Digestion; Give you digestion a 12 hour rest eat day during your detox. So don‟t eat after 8pm at night and not before 8am the following morning.

Juicing Juicing is a quick and easy way to detox. Freshly squeezed juices are easy on the di-gestive systems, they are packed full of nutrients. When your body is getting all the nutrients it needs you do not have cravings.

A Unique Opportunity To Invest In A Future Champion

Josh Day is a professional paint sprayer and motorcy-cle racer from Cirencester, Gloucester. Josh competed in the North Gloucester Road Racing Club Road Racing Championships in the 2007 season. This was his first ever race season - no motocross, no mini mo-to… No prior race experi-ence whatsoever. Despite this, he finished 13th in the Open 600cc Championship and 2nd in the Open Novice Championship. These re-sults were achieved on his standard Yamaha R6 road bike, with the only modifica-tions to race fairings and tyres. Josh was determined to progress quickly in his racing career and so, still on his 2006 Yamaha R6 bike, he entered himself for the first few rounds of the 2008 season Met-zeler National Superstock 600 Championship. His plan was sim-ple; see what level he could jump to during the first few rounds of the national championships, then complete the year gaining valua-ble experience.

But plans sometimes go awry. What actually happened would be beyond even Josh‟s wildest dreams. A number of top ten fin-ishes, along with a podium finish at Oulton Park meant that Josh finished the season in 13th posi-tion overall. Commitment, Drive & Passion

As well as riding in the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Champi-onship in 2008, Josh was also making appearances at club level with NG Road Racing. The Open 600cc Championship was some-thing Josh was really keen to win, but other commitments allowed him only to compete in 8 races. Even knowing that he couldn‟t complete the season, his passion and natural talent for racing shone through, and he came out with four victories, and three 2nd posi-tions. He finished the season 3rd in the final championship stand-ings. 2009 saw Josh again entered into the extremely competitive Met-zeler National Superstock 600 Championship. With Successful pre-season testing, the outlook was promising. Brands Hatch played host to the first race of the season, and Josh qualified well,

A Unique Opportunity To Invest In A Future Champion

only to be penalised with a ride through penalty for a jump-start while running in second place. The final results revealed that Josh still managed to finish in 13th position from 38 riders. Well aware that he had the pace to run at the front of the race, in the next round at Oulton Park, Josh was running in 3rd position only to have his race cut short after being taken out of the race by another rider on the first lap. The next round took him back to Donington Park where illness hampered his winning chances, he still managed to secure 8th position. A Test Of Dedication

Over the next few rounds his dedi-cation was put to the test. Due to technical problems he missed the next three rounds. This meant he was unable to secure any valua-ble points and make headway on the overall placing. Racing fit, Josh returned to Croft and it was obvious that he was aiming to win both points and his confidence back. This he did by coming 12th, and by Silverstone he was running at the front again, and finished the race in an unbe-lievable 6th place.

Champion & Record Breaker

Still passionate about road racing, and still dreaming of winning the NG Road Racing 600 Champion-ships, Josh juggled and coordi-nated all his other race commit-ments and managed to compete in 12 out of the 14 rounds during the 2009 season. It paid off. With an impressive 11 wins, Josh took the title for the 600 Championship 2009. Josh entered the 2010 Metzeler National Superstock 600 Champi-onship. It was undoubtedly Josh‟s year. Seven pole positions, 3 wins and breaking two lap records at both Snetterton and Thruxton - this was just the start. Some rac-es saw him leading with over 9.8 seconds over the rest of the field and at the final round at Oulton Park, Josh finally secured victory and took the Championship title. Today Josh still holds the fastest ever lap ever recorded for Brands Hatch, Thruxton and Knockhill circuits. Although these times were set in qualifying and not in the race. 2011 was to be a whole new ad-venture for Josh. He said hello to a whole new race championship.

Josh entered the 2011 MCE British Superbike Series, riding an Evo Kawasaki ZX1DRR. Although he hadn‟t ridden a 1000cc machine before , Josh‟s natural talent was still evident. Unfortunately, Josh‟s team were experiencing technical issues at the start of the Evo Championship, which meant he had to sit out the first 2 races. Riding Out The Rough With The Smooth

Undaunted, Josh waited until the team had resolved the issues. At Oulton Park Josh managed a top 3 Evo finish. But his bad luck didn't stop there. With a nail biting four rounds to go, the team he was riding for collapsed. Josh only managed 9 races out of the 26 available.

With 23 riders in the series, this meant his overall standing was 15th.and now without a team.

It is a testament to Josh‟s tal-ent, ability and determination, that within days he was pre-sented with and took up a rare opportunity to fill in for an in-jured rider in another team at the British Supersport Champi-onship.

This challenge covered the final 4 meetings of the season and included getting used to a brand new bike. With only a day for testing at Mallory Park, it was straight over to Cadwell Park, where Josh got to grips with the Su-persport bike. The 2nd outing on the bike was back at Don-ington Park and Josh skilfully managed to put the bike on the front row. Even though he had only competed in 4 rounds of the season, he finished the British Supersport Champion-ship against 36 riders in 21st position. New Adventures, New Bike

In 2013 Josh was chosen to ride the Be Wiser Kawasaki ZX1OR in the National Super-stock 1000 Series. The Be Wiser Kawasaki Team have been around the Superbike paddock for several years with great success. The British Superbike organis-ers for this year banned all foreign testing, which many

Champion 2010

teams took advantage of be-cause of the guaranteed weather. The organisers deemed the foreign circuits too dangerous and too costly for a lot of the teams involved. This obviously had an effect on the 2013 testing programme, and Josh like many other riders who had joined new teams with new bikes, meant they would start the season with limited valuable pre-season track time. With approximately 60 riders trying to qualify for only 30 grid positions, things were very close and lots of riders were unable to make qualification. Josh, however qualified in all of the 12 rounds for the sea-son. He had some great top 10 results, including a 4th position at Donington Park with the World Superbike Series. Josh finished the 2013 season at Brands Hatch with a fastest second day qualification 1st. He was also fastest in free practice and managed to finish the race in 6th place.
