Baptisms: Arrangements must be made by parents through the Rectory Office to schedule baptisms and arrange for Pre-Baptism classes. All parents expecting to baptize their first child are to attend Pre-Baptism classes.

Weddings: Arrangements should be made with a priest through the Rectory Office at least six months prior to the desired date. All couples must attend Pre-Cana classes which are normally scheduled in March.

Funerals:

Arrangements are made with the Rectory Office through the funeral director before publication in the newspapers.

MAY DEVOTIONS

The Moleben service will be prayed each Tuesday

and Thursday at 7:00pm throughout the month of

May. The Apostleship of Prayer will be praying the

Rosary before the service at 7:00pm. Each week

our Cathedral will have different icons of the

Virgin for prayer worship. We encourage all

parishioners to attend these services in honor of the

Theotokos, the Blessed Virgin Mary.

MISSION DAYS

Starting on the feast of the Ascension May 30th to

Pentecost, June 9th we will once again pray that the

Lord might renew our life through the Holy Spirit.

Throughout these ten Mission Days let us pray for

our own parish, mission parishes in St. Josaphat Eparchy and

our beloved Church in Ukraine.

CATHEDRAL HOURS

The Cathedral is open weekdays between the morning Divine

Liturgy until 4:00 PM for anyone who wishes to come to the

church for prayer.

ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT

The year, the Annual Parish Financial Report will be

distributed, by request only, to registered members of the

Parish who contribute to the financial support of the church.

It will not be published in the bulletin. If you wish to receive a

copy of the report (one report per household), please stop at

the rectory or send a self-addressed stamped envelope to the

rectory and a copy will be mailed to you.

YOUTH PILGRIMAGE TO PHILADELPHIA

During the week of June 2 of 2019, the Ukrainian Catholic

Church in America will celebrate the installation of the new

Zacchaeus - Bible & Catechism Study Group

St. Josaphat Parish has started a Bible Study and UGCC

Catechism Study Group. Our next meeting will be on

Monday, May 6, 2019 at 6:30pm in the Men’s Club Room.

Participants will read, discuss and learn about Holy Scripture

and the Catechism of our Ukrainian Church. The group is

open to high school students through adults from any and all

parishes in the local area. Archdeacon Jeff will lead the group.

The Myrrh-bearing women and the

Christian women of today.

On the Second Sunday after Easter is

the Sunday of the Myrrh-bearing

women, or the Sunday of the faithful

women. You should be joyful that you partake of this

special honor from our Resurrected Lord. And through

our most pure Mother Theotokos and the Holy Myrrh-

bearing women, you have a Sunday a year when you

are especially honored. May the Lord multiply in you

the grace and gifts of the Holy Spirit and may the gift

of Christian love abide truly in you and in your family.

Let not forget that all of you – Christian women and

your daughters - are called to be the Holy Myrrh-

bearing women of the Church today and forever.

Metropolitan-Archbishop of Philadelphia. Archbishop Gudziak

is inviting children, youth, and young adults from all four

Ukrainian Catholic eparchies in the United States to take part

on Saturday, June 8, in the youth day in Philadelphia. We

encourage our young people to attend.

THE LITURGY OF VESPERS & THE PRESANCTIFIED

DIVINE LITURGY, PART THREE

Copies of the first installment of Catechetical Sermons on the

Vespers by Reverend Ivan Chirovsky are available in the

Cathedral vestibule in both Ukrainian and English. We invite

you to pick up a copy.

ST. JOSAPHAT FESTIVAL

A few committee members have retired and will not

be able to assist in organizing certain activities for

this year’s festival which will be held on Saturday,

Aug. 24 & Sunday, Aug. 25. I thank these members

for the contribution they have provided for past festivals.

This means we need a few volunteers that join the committee to

lead one of the following activities:

a. Finance: organizing ticket sales, raffles, keeping record of

the budget, depositing money on the days of the festival.

b. Sponsors: approach sponsors and obtain confirmation of

their sponsorship (list available).

c. Advertising: widely advertise festival in media,

newspapers, radio etc., flyers, road signs.

Furthermore previous team leaders will assist in transferring

their information to new volunteers. Anybody interested to join the committee please contact Hans

ESTINA FRANZAK SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Students who are attending or are planning to attend Duquesne

University should be aware of the availability of the Estina

Franzak Perpetual Scholarship Fund. The Fund is intended to

benefit students of Ukrainian ethnicity in their studies at

Duquesne University. The amount of scholarship varies.

Scholarships are awarded on an academic year basis. Recipients

from prior years will be considered for renewal of awards,

provided that they demonstrate satisfactory academic progress.

For additional details please see your parish priest. Applications

must be submitted to the Education Board of St. George

Ukrainian Catholic Church by June 1st, 2019.

PASTORAL VISIT TO

SAINT JOSAPHAT CATHEDRAL

His Eminence Leonardo Sandri, Perfect of the

Congregation for the Oriental Churches will

make a short visit to St. Josaphat Cathedral on

Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 9am. Cardinal Leonardo Sandri is an Argentine

Cardinal of the Catholic Church. He has been the

Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches since

June 2007 and a cardinal since November of that year. He

served in the diplomatic service of the Holy See from 1974 to

1991, in several overseas assignments including as permanent

observer of the Holy See before the Organization of American

States from 1989 to 1991, and in Rome as Substitute for

General Affairs in the Secretariat of State from 1977 to 1989.

St. Josaphat Cathedral Parish will be having a one day

pilgrimage to St. Anthony’s Chapel National Shrine in

Pittsburgh, PA Sunday, August 17th, 2019 this year. St

Anthony’s Chapel is home to the largest collection of publicly

venerable Christian relics – 5,000 in total – in the world outside
