WELCOME

Mission Statement:

To provide children with a loving, caring, warm and healthy

environment that enhances social, emotional and physical

development through interactive play with an emphasis on

sensory integration along with both fine and gross motor skills.

Letter to Parents:

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Dippy-Do’s Daycare. I want to express my

sincere appreciation and gratitude in choosing my daycare to

place your children. I also want to reassure you they are in

loving and caring hands. I am a mother of two young kids and

have a deep loving passion for children. With my son having

been on the autism spectrum and an oversensitive Sensory

Processing Disorder, I have managed to gain a wealth of

information of not only the sensory system, but also the

development of children in correlation to the sensory system.

With that knowledge, along with my passion for kids, I chose to

open a facility that is geared towards opening and enhancing

their senses through various hands-on activities and interactive

play. I provide a daily schedule including a state approved

school-ready curriculum to prepare your kids for their first years

in school. I am always open to feedback, thoughts and

suggestions. Thank you, again, for considering my daycare and

taking time to review this handbook. Should you have any

questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Carrie A. Hoffman

I will accept children from 6 months to 6 years of age.

Weekly Schedule:

Monday through Friday: 6:00 am to 6:00 pm

One Saturday a month: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm or 6:00 pm

to 9:00 pm

Saturday and Sunday: Closed (exceptions for

emergencies and/or special events)

Drop-In Care: Drop-in childcare is offered during normal

business hours with a maximum of 3 hours. The price for drop-

in childcare is $7.00 an hour per child. Please call prior to drop-

off to assure availability is open.

Special Events & Emergency After Hours Care:

Special Events: Once a month I provide parents with a

“special event,” or a Saturday time away. Childcare during this

time is offered from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm, or from 6:00 pm

until 9:00 pm. Reservation is required for these events. The

pricing for an event is $10.00 per child for a three-hour

increment. Special events are always held on a Saturday, and

parents will be notified of the date at the beginning of the

month. This is not a requirement, and only offered as an

incentive.

Emergency Childcare: Weekend and after-hours emergency

childcare is provided and is considered drop-in childcare.

Therefore, a drop-in charge of $7.00 an hour per child will be

assessed.

Overnight Childcare: Overnight childcare is only offered as

an emergency. An additional $25.00 per child will be required.

Absences, Appointments/Early Pick-Ups, &

Provider/Family Illness:

Absences: If you plan to keep your child home due to illness,

or any other reason, you must notify me no later than your

regular drop-off time.

Appointments and Early Pick-Ups: Please notify me when

you drop your child off in the morning if you will be picking

your child up early that day, or if your child has an appointment

and will be leaving and returning later in the day.

Provider & Family Illness: Since I have two children of my

own, should I or they become excessively ill and I need to

cancel childcare, you will be notified 24 hours prior to, or as

soon thereafter as possible. Should illness not be excessive

enough to require cancelation, you will still be notified 24 hours

prior to childcare of symptoms. It will be to your discretion

whether you want your child to attend or to keep them at home

or with another provider.

ATTENDANCE cont…

Dippy-Do’s Daycare Two-Week Probation and

Childcare Enrollment:

Two-Week Probation: Upon enrollment in Dippy-Do’s

Daycare, each child will start with a two-week probation. The

Childcare Contract will not become affective until two weeks

after the child’s starting date indicated on the contract. This is

not only for the parents and child, but also for the provider to

assure Dippy-Do’s Daycare is a good fit for all parties.

Enrollment: Enrollment begins two weeks following the start

date indicated on the Parent Contract. Prior to enrollment the

following contracts and releases must be completed and signed:

Parent/Provider Contract;

Illness Policy;

Discipline Policy and Household Rules;

Media Release;

Pet Release;

Travel and Activity Authorization;

About Your Child Form;

Contact/Emergency Information Form;

Medical Information/Consent Form; and

Over the Counter Medication Form.

Following the two-week probation, you will receive a copy of

all forms, contracts and releases signed along with an

acknowledgement of receipt of those copies. That

acknowledgement will need to be signed and returned to me.

Termination:

Termination: Once enrollment has begun, either the parent or

provider has the right to terminate service for any reason

provided a 2-week written notice is given. Written notices can

be given in forms of email, Facebook messages, text message,

typed or handwritten. A $50 fee will be assessed for

termination prior to 2-week notification.

Reasons for Termination: Termination can be a result from

failure to follow any of the policies signed and acknowledged

upon enrollment. As referenced under the disciplinary policy,

should negative behavior continue to occur after a corrective

action plan has been put in place, termination may be enforced

for the welfare and safety of the other kids.

HOLIDAYS, VACATIONS

& EMERGENCIES Holidays:

Dippy-Do’s Daycare will be closed on the following holidays

that fall on a weekday. Please arrange for alternative care on

those days:

New Year’s Eve: Closed at noon.

Memorial Day (Observed): Closed at noon.

Independence Day: Closed all day.

Labor Day (Observed): Closed at noon.

Thanksgiving and the Friday after: Closed all day.

Christmas Eve: Closed all day.

Christmas Day: Closed all day.

Provider Vacations:

Any vacations I take will not be longer than 2 weeks per year,

separated into 1 week segments. You will be notified of any

planned vacations at the beginning of each year. Please arrange

for alternative care during that time. There will be no charge

during any provider vacations.

Parent Vacations:

Each family will receive 1 week vacation tuition free per year.

If you plan on keeping your child out of care for longer than 1

week, tuition must be paid for the remaining vacation period to

hold your child’s slot.

Emergency/Substitute Care:

Though I will be happy to provide parents with a list of other

providers in the area, it is ultimately the parent’s responsibility to

arrange for substitute and/or emergency care for their child. Should

an emergency arise at my daycare either with my children or

another child, and I need to leave the premises, you will be notified

immediately and my husband, James Hoffman, will substitute as

the provider-in-care for the children until they can be picked up

from a parent or authorized individual.

Fire and Tornado:

Fire Drill/Fire Emergency: Fire drills will be done monthly.

Children in Dippy-Do’s Daycare will wait on the grass/dirt patch at

the bottom of the driveway. If there ever is a fire, all parents will

be notified immediately for pick-up and will be notified where to

pick their children up at that time.

Tornado Drill/Tornado Emergency: Tornado drills will be done

monthly during the spring and summer. If there ever is a tornado,

all children will be brought to the basement and will take shelter

under the stairs in the laundry room. If you desire to pick your

child up during a tornado watch, please let me know in advance or

include that on the About Your Child form.

PARENT INFORMATION Meals:

Breakfast will be served no later than 9:00 am. If you bring

your child past 9:00 am, please provide breakfast prior to

arrival. Lunch will be served between 12:00 pm and 1:30

pm. If you bring your child later than this time, please provide

lunch prior to arrival. I will provide meals for table food fed

children. Any formula or baby food will need to be provided by

the parent(s). I do participate in the Campfire of West

Michigan 4C’s Food Program. Please indicate any specific

dietary needs or allergies on the About Your Child form.

Supplies and Items Brought From Home:

Parents are responsible for maintaining a spare set of clothing,

diapers and underwear in their child’s cubbies. Please, also,

check your child’s cubie frequently to make sure the spare set of

clothing matches your child’s current size and is seasonally

comfortable. I will provide baby wipes, hand wipes, Kleenex,

and other items of day-to-day necessity. Please check daily

under Special Requests on your Daily Activity Report for any

supplies needed or running low of.

During seasonably cool weather, I will provide hats, gloves and

mittens. Please provide snow pants, coats and other seasonally

necessary clothing, including a spare set of clothing.

Comfort Toys Brought from Home:

While I do not mind items of comfort (i.e. blankets, stuffed

animals, and various toys) brought from home with your child,

as a provider, I will not maintain responsibility for the

condition, location and/or damage to the item. Kids are asked

to keep any items brought from home in their cubbie, outside of

quiet time, unless they are willing to share their toy with others.

Parent Involvement and Parent Visits:

Parent Involvement: Parents will be given a monthly

curriculum each month listing the monthly letters, numbers,

colors and vocabulary associated with the weekly themes.

Parents are encouraged to discuss these themes (including the

letters, numbers, and colors discussed each month) with their

children. Vocabulary cards will be given to the children each

week, which will include that week’s theme word in both

English and Spanish.

There will be periodic informative printouts handed out to each

parent. It is requested, but not required, that you read these

handouts. These handouts will include educational information

on childhood social and emotional development and behavioral

challenges. Some handouts will also include various suggestive

family activities that may be associated with the daycare’s

themes and/or sensory integrative rolls.

Parent Visits: Parents are always welcome to stop in the

daycare for a visit. Please, however, keep your visits to a 30-

minute maximum, as other parents are required notification

should your presence remain longer in the home.

person that may pick your child up from daycare on the About

Your Child Contact Emergency Information. Anyone picking

up your child early from Dippy-Do’s Daycare will be required

to complete an Early Release.

Early/Alternate Release Form:

Any person who is not considered a guardian or parent (i.e.

mother or father) will be required to provide a valid ID and

Infants and Safe Sleep:

I am required by the State of Michigan to enforce safe sleep to all

infants younger than 1 year of age. Should you arrive with your

child asleep in the car seat, I am required to remove the child from

the car seat and place him/her in a safe sleep crib, pack n’ play, or

other approved safe sleep equipment. If a child falls asleep in a

non-safe sleep equipment (i.e. swing, car seat, bouncy, etc.), they

will be immediately removed and placed in a safe sleep crib, pack

n’ play, or other approved safe sleep equipment.

Smoking:

There is no smoking allowed in the daycare of on Dippy-Do’s

premise/property.

Statement of Non-Discrimination:

Dippy-Do’s Daycare, and Carrie A. Hoffman, welcomes all

families, regardless of race, religion, national origin, sexual

orientation, gender, ancestry, marital or parental status, and

physical mental, emotional or learning disability.

PARENT INFORMATION cont… Religion and Culture Plan:

While I will not force religion on other children in Dippy-Do’s

Daycare, I also will not hide my faith as a Christian. Prayer

prior to meals will be done in an enjoyable song format, and

there may be occasional Christian songs played during music

time.

I recognize and respect that all children are cognitively,

linguistically and emotionally connected to the language and

culture of their home and family. I am committed to respecting

and learning each child’s culture, and I will be responsive to the

families, racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds of the children

in my program. In an effort to reflect the philosophies and

values of diversity, all enrolled children will be exposed to a

cultural education and experience through hands-on activities,

cultural conversation, and, at times, field trips geared towards

multi-cultural education. With diversity growing in our society,

I encourage families to participate in cultural activities and

discuss their, and other, cultural background with their children.

Special Needs Plan:

With my daycare geared towards sensory integration focusing

on social and emotional development, I am committed to

meeting and implementing each individual child’s needs while

in my care. I will collaborate with families daily through a

reporting system called Brightwheels, as well as verbal

communication, to meet their children’s needs and

developmental goals. I will make reasonable accommodations

to the children enrolled in my childcare and provide necessary

teaching strategies to assist each child with their developmental

needs.

IN-HOME INFORMATION

Lead-Based Paint:

While there has been in-home lead-based paint tests done

throughout the home of Dippy-Do’s Daycare and has come up

negative for any lead-based paint, the tests were not from a

professional lead-based paint testing company. Therefore,

Carrie A. Hoffman of Dippy-Do’s Daycare is not aware of any

potential lead-based paint throughout the home.

In-Home Security System:

My home is equipped with an in-home security system through

Xfinity (a/k/a: Comcast). This security system provides not

only with a camera, but also a warning system whenever a door

is opened. Every time a door opens, the security system gives

an audible sound as well as a text message sent to my cell

phone. The camera provided with this system is set up in our

family room and has recording ability.

Cameras:

There are seven cameras installed throughout the house, both

inside and out. All cameras record, and a recording is kept for

30 days. Any incidents documented on the cameras are

downloaded and filed with the child’s, or children’s, individual

file. While these cameras do record, and are accessible through

the Nest website, I do not allow parent accessibility on a daily,

as desired, basis. I will, however, allow viewing of the

camera’s recordings should any parent request to view the

recordings because of concerns or incidents on the daycare

premise.

Parking:

When available, please park in the turn-about on the right side

of the driveway when dropping off or picking up your children.

If the turnabout is full, please park towards the top of the

driveway to avoid blocking any other parent, or driver, in.

Cleaning and Sanitizing:

I try hard to keep my home clean and sanitized. The following

rooms in my home are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized once a

week: Toy Room, Family Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, and

Bathrooms. The Toy Room, Family Room, Dining Room and

Kitchen are swept or vacuumed, cleaned and sprayed with

Lysol every night after close of Dippy-Do’s Daycare. Toys

played with are wiped with sanitizing wipes daily. While

bathrooms are thoroughly cleaned each weekend, the kid’s

bathroom (a/k/a Toy Room Bathroom) is sanitized and wiped

down daily.

To assure proper sanitizing, the carpets in the family room and

toy room are steamed cleaned with a Bissel carpet cleaner every

other weekend, or as often as needed. To reduce the need for

extra carpet cleaning, please encourage your kids to remove

their shoes upon entering the home and put them in their

designated shoe cubie.

Outdoor Play Area & Daycare Garden:

Outdoor Play: The daycare outdoor play area is a fenced in

play area that is attached to the side of the house. Access into

the play area is currently through the inside back door. This

door is also directly next to the toy room bathroom, thereby

making bathroom accessibility easy for kids. The play area is

supplied with various outdoor play toys along with a swing set

and slides. I will monitor all outdoor activities.

Daycare Garden: Aside from pre-planned outdoor activities, a

garden is adjacent to the outdoor play area. Each child will

have an opportunity each spring/summer to plant a vegetable of

their choice and grow them through maturity. This is an

addition to the curriculum, and not necessarily part of the

curriculum. Planting provides not only an outdoor education,

but is also a great vestibular/tactile sensory activity.

Mandated Reporter:

As a licensed childcare provider, I am mandated by the court of

law in the State of Michigan to report any suspicious and/or

apparent visually physical or psychological signs of child

neglect or abuse. As a provider and mother, children are my

passion, and this is something I will not resist doing.

DAILY SCHEDULE &

SCHOOL-READY CURRICULUM School-Ready Curriculum:

The school-ready curriculum I provide is a state approved

curriculum called, The Creative Curriculum, through Teaching

Strategies. The curriculum is divided into two different lesson

plans based on two different age groups. The first age group is

birth through 36 months and is called Honey Bees. The second

age group is 3 through Kindergarten and is called Polar Bears.

The age groups are divided to focus more on the different

developmental milestones.

Honey Bees

Honey Bee program is for ages birth through 36 months. This

program is geared towards helping children reach childhood

milestones through interactive play and various fine motor,

gross motor and sensory styled activities. Through songs,

reading, dramatic play and many other activities, Dippy-Do's

Daycare works toward aiding children in reaching their

social/emotional, language, cognitive, and physical

developmental milestone. Baby sign is also implemented to

enhance the language/communication milestone. Each parent in

the Honey Bee program will receive baby sign visual aid cards

that are used daily at the daycare.

Polar Bears

The Polar Bear program is a PreK-K school-ready program

primarily for ages 3 through 5. This program is geared towards

enhancing the already-achieved childhood milestones of

social/emotional, cognitive, language/communication and

movement/physical development.

Children will learn letters and letter sounds through zoo

phonics, and continued introduction of colors, shapes and

numbers introduces a "taste" of history, social studies, culture

and science through activities like Continent

Boxes, Scholastic books referencing various parts of history in

an age appropriate comprehensive manner, and interactive

safe science experiments for young children. The goal for the

Polar Bear program is to prepare your child for meeting the

required state standards for preschool and/or kindergarten.

Monthly lesson plans for these two programs are posted on

my website and appear as follows:

Daily Schedule:

Outdoor Play: The daycare outdoor play area is currently not

fenced in. There is, however, a snow fence to indicate a

boundary of the play area. The play area is supplied with

Daily Schedule:

There are two different daily schedules, one for each age group.

While they are very similar, there are minor differences to

assure the safety and interaction of the different age groups.

To maintain a family environment, there are a few activities that

we do together, including eating lunch together and story/snack

time together. We also have a morning meeting together as one

group in which we all recite the Pledge of Allegiance, sing a

couple of songs, and talk about the activities planned for the

day.

The daily schedules are as follows:

DIPPY-DO’S DAYCARE EXTRAS Scholastic Reading Program:

Dippy-Do’s Daycare is part of the Scholastic Reading Club.

Once a month each child will be allowed to pick one book from

the reading club flyer to receive free of charge. Monthly flyers

will go home with the children to pick their monthly book, and

any extra books the parents would like to purchase for their kids

through the program.

YMCA:

Not only is parent/child interaction vital to the growth,

development, and bonding of your child, but I also feel physical

activity can build confidence. To encourage this, I have an

agreement with the Mary Free Bed YMCA and my business,

Dippy-Do’s Daycare. The YMCA is offering all enrolled

children at Dippy-Do’s Daycare, and their families, half off

child or family memberships or half off classes only for the

children enrolled. The following is a list of prices:

City-wide family membership through Dippy-Do’s Daycare:

$50.00 per month and includes one free class per session per

child enrolled at Dippy-Do’s Daycare;

City-wide child only membership through Dippy-Do’s

Daycare: $12.00 per month and includes one free class per

session per child enrolled at Dippy-Do’s Daycare;

Non-YMCA Membership/YMCA class attendance only:

Half off the cost of one class per session per child.

ASQ (Ages & Stages Questionnaire) Screening:

Ages and Stages Questionnaire is a developmental screening

from one month of age through 5 ½ years of age. This

screening helps identify what developmental and social-

emotional strengths or delays your child may have. The

screening is known for, and continues to be, the “gold standard”

for developmental screening by leading authorities and users

worldwide. Ages and Stages Questionnaire has been identified

as a high-quality screener by American Academy of Neurology

and favorably reviewed by American Academy of Pediatric

Discovering where your child is developmentally can help you

as a parent, as well as other caregivers (i.e. teachers, daycare

providers, tutors, etc.), pinpoint what needs more attention or

what strengths can be challenged. While I’m a firm believer

that we are all human, not robots, and develop on different

levels at different stages, I also feel it is vital that we have a

clear understanding and/or idea of where our children may be

falling behind or advancing. Intervening with delays at a

younger age than older can make a huge difference in

advancement, as well as recovery, thus making education and

learning easier and more enjoyable.

As your provider, I offer these screenings to those enrolled in

Dippy-Do’s Daycare as a benefit of the daycare free of

charge. Screenings are completed every two to three months

through age 5 ½.

Brightwheels:

To provide parents with consistent communication, I have

implemented Brightwheels to Dippy-Do’s Daycare program.

Brightwheels is a program that allows daily updates of your

child’s status, activities and general information as well as

occasional pictures, posted via an app on your Apple I-Phone.

This app allows for notifications when updates are being posted

as well as reviews of prior daily activities. Brightwheels

website is: www.mybrightwheel.com.

Field trips:

Field trips are occasionally scheduled to correspond with

school-ready lesson plan or what has recently been discussed.

For safety reasons, field trips are only offered to children who

can walk without assistance. Each parent will receive

notification of the field trip and asked to sign a field trip

permission slip prior to. Some field trips will have a nominal

charge.

Newsletters:

A monthly newsletter is provided to review the month’s

discussions, learning activities and any other informative

information including changes, additions and updates to the

daycare and pictures of the prior month’s events.

Sensory Movie Screenings:

As a provider of a sensory integrative daycare, I occasionally

host a sensory movie screening with the local Ada-Lowell 5

Theater. A sensory movie screening is a lights up/sound down

movie that is geared towards first-time movie viewers or those

disabilities that can’t attend regular movie screenings. Those

enrolled in my daycare will receive free admission to these
