What can I learn at IFT?

What programmes does IFT offer?

If I have completed IFT’s evening Diploma Programme, is there any possibility to top

up to a relevant Bachelor Degree Programme?

You can learn knowledge and skills which will help you succeed

in a career in the tourism and hospitality industry, or in the

various organisations and business linked to this important

industry: national and international tourism planning

departments; airlines; airline services; casinos and clubs; hotels;

local and regional transportation services; conventions and

conference services; tourism retails; marketing and advertising;

museums; preservation of cultural heritage sites; recreation and

leisure facilities; restaurants; tour operators, travel agencies and

many others.

Yes. Diploma Programme students admitted from academic year

2011/12 and thereafter could have the option of topping up to a

relevant evening bachelor degree at IFT after completing their

Diploma Programmes.

How are the classes arranged?

What is the medium of instruction?

Has IFT achieved global recognition?

For daytime degree programmes, classes are arranged during day

time on weekdays and/or weekends.

For evening diploma and degree programmes, courses are

arranged in modular format. When each course module ends, it

will be followed by final examination. Practicum will be

arranged during winter or summer months.

English for daytime programmes and Chinese for evening

programmes.

Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT), established in 1995, is a

public institution of higher education that falls under the

governance of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the

Macao Special Administrative Region Government, People’s

Republic of China. It is the first tourism education institution

certified by the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s

Themis TedQual (Tourism Education Quality) system. For more

Hong Kong

Some IFT Bachelor Degree graduates’ qualification has been

recognised as Level 5 under Hong Kong Qualifications

Framework (i.e. having completed a bachelor degree equivalent

to a Hong Kong bachelor degree).

Do IFT students have the opportunity to perform internship in other places?

Is overseas exchange programme available?

Mainland

According to the memorandum announced by the China

Education Bureau in May 2008 regarding “the Hong

Kong/Macao higher education qualification and the degree

certificates received by the Mainland students”, it was required

that mainland students must study full-time for their Bachelor

Degree, Master Degree and Doctorate Degree programmes and

the period of stay in Hong Kong/Macao must not be shorter than

50% of the entire curriculum. Details can be found in this link.

In the third year, students may have the opportunity to go to

China (including Hong Kong and Chinese Taiwan), Australia,

Dubai, Germany, Greece, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand,

Portugal, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, United

Kingdom, United States, among other places or stay in Macao

for a semester of internship. More information is available at

Can evening programme students apply for exemption from the practicum and

internship?

Can IFT graduates further their studies in other places?

Does IFT offer postgraduate programmes?

Evening programme students meeting the requirements can

apply for practicum or internship exemption. Please click

IFT graduates have a wide spectrum of further study

opportunities. Graduates have been admitted by world famous

universities like University College London, Cornell University,

Peking University, The University of Hong Kong, The

University of Manchester, The University of Queensland,

University of Surrey, etc. for master’s programme. IFT Bachelor

Degree Programmes are widely recognized by the universities.

What are my career prospects after graduation?

What facilities are there at IFT?

According to the latest graduate’s employment survey, 67% of

IFT graduates are employed in tourism and hospitality industry

and more than half of them are working in mega resort and

entertainment complex like Wynn Macau, Grand Hyatt Macau,

Melco Crown Entertainment Limited, Sands China, MGM China

and Galaxy Entertainment Group. The monthly medium salary is

MOP14,900.

Besides being prepared for a career in tourism and hospitality

industry, students may become future trainers and teachers for

the service sector.

IFT has two campuses – Mong-Há Campus and Taipa

Campus. Mong-Há Campus consists of four main blocks –

Inspiration Building (Academic Block), Team Building

(Administrative Block), Educational Hotel (Pousada de

Mong-Há) and Educational Restaurant.

Is there any hostel for students?

How can I check my application status?

All non-local students (including exchange students), upon their

request, can apply for an allotment in our Student Hostel. Rental

fee is subject to annual review due to inflation rate. For more

information, please visit the Student Hostel website.

have provided scholarship to students who have outstanding

performance in overseas internship or exchange programmes. For

Is there any way to upgrade my score from written examinations and interview?

1) Special talent / skill

Applicants who have special talent or skill could be

given extra score. These talents or skills include but

not limited to:

1. Sports (skating, chess, swimming, football,

badminton, table tennis, wushu, fencing,

field-events, etc.)

2. Arts (singing, choir,

dancing, drawing,

calligraphy, etc.)

3. Skills (debate, musical

instrument playing, etc.)

Applicants, in individuals or in groups, who have taken

part in inter-school, regional, provincial, national or

international tournament could be given extra score if

they have achieved the following.

Is there any Halal canteen or menu at IFT?

How is a student with allergy to alcohol being assessed in Wine Studies?

The tasting component of the course is evaluated through a tasting exam. The student with

allergy to alcohol can still do most of the examination without actual tasting (appearance of

wine or aromas of the wine). S/he would not have the full mark but can still achieve marks

from other parts of the assessment.

What is the admission score line for Mainland applicants? Can I apply for IFT

bachelor degree programmes if there is no English score in my National College

Entrance Examination results?

Mainland high school leavers who have attended the National College Entrance

Examination of the current academic year and whose results have achieved the first score

line (or undergraduate score line) or above are required to attend an English oral interview

arranged by the Institute. Applicants who do not have English score in their National

College Entrance Examination results are also eligible to apply if they have reached the

first score line in their overall results. The Institute will evaluate the integrated National

Unified Exam results and their English oral interview performance for competitive

selection.

How can I apply for IFT programmes in mainland China? Mainland applicants can submit online application at admission website.

Can retake students of the National College Entrance Examination apply for IFT

programmes?

Mainland applicants must be current applicants of the National College Entrance

Examination when they apply for IFT programmes.

I’m a mainland applicant. Do I have to go to Macao to attend the English oral

interview?

Mainland applicants who have achieved the first score line or undergraduate score line in

the National College Entrance Examination of the current academic year will be invited for

an English oral interview. Applicants from Guangdong province will have group interview

in English in Gongbei while applicants from other provinces will be arranged for a SKYPE

interview in English.

What is the “Applicant Number in National College Entrance Examination” in the

application form for Mainland applicants?

Mainland applicants should input their applicant number used in the National College

Entrance Examination. The number consists of 14 digits in which the first 4 digits are the

provincial / city code. Applicants can confirm this number with their educational bureau.
