I'm sure you have all worked out that Adoremus means to adore. One of the many aspects of the forthcoming congress is the promotion or even rediscovery of Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. Jesus Christ is present in the Sacred Host, it is an abiding presence. Jesus Christ wants to remain close to His follow- ers so they can grow in love of Him and draw close to Him. That relationship works both ways, Jesus Christ draws close to us as well. In the Blessed Sacrament Christ is present, we have a wonderful God given opportunity to come close to Christ, to allow Him to be part of our lives. Here at Our Lady and St Michael's we have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament every Saturday from 10.30 to 11.30am. I am disappointed to say that it is poorly attended, all too often just a handful of people adoring Jesus present in the Eucharist. Despite the poor attendance we will not stop it. All I can do is urge you to think about coming along on a Saturday, even if only to spend a few minutes before Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament. If you do you will not regret it as it will help you in your Spiritual lives. Confirmation. It is time to start preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation which will take place on 21 March 2019. We are delighted that our young people and adults will be confirmed by Bishop Swarbrick. I have visited those families who have Catholic children currently in Year 6, but will be in Year 7 in September 2018. From them I have received an excellent response. This group of young people will be pre- pared in the same way as in previous years, that is on 10 Sunday afternoons between October 2018 and March 2019. During November 2017 Canon Swarbrick, Fr Harrison and the Confirmation Cate- chists decided that this sacrament would be moved to Year 6. I will visit their homes in the new academic year. They will be prepared for Confirmation during their RE lessons. However, they will join the Year 7 group for the Retreat day in Castlerigg on Saturday 9 March and the rehearsal which is on Sunday 17 March. More details later. I need your help, this is where you can do your bit for Jesus. A number of children who were baptised in our parish or elsewhere, do not attend a Catholic school, in many cases we do not have any contact details. If you know parents of these children and they are interested in being confirmed could you ask the parents to contact us as soon as pos- sible. This also applies to young people in Years 6–11 who are in non-Catholic schools. Any adults wishing to be Confirmed should make this known to Fr Dadson, Fr Harri- son or myself. Thank you for your co-operation on this very important matter. If you are not clear on the above please do not hesitate to contact me. Sister Eleanor. Children’s Liturgy OLSM. Parish Property & Maintenance. If anyone notices anything in our parish that needs attention please don’t assume that ‘someone’ is dealing with it or even complain that ‘someone’ should do something about it, as ‘someone’ may not be aware of the issue. It would be very helpful if you would contact either one of the clergy or me in the parish office and let us know of any concerns. Thank you, Sharon.

Our refugee families. As you are aware 4 refugee families have been settled by the Council in our parish, whose children attend our Catholic schools. They are eternally grateful to you for the help that you have given to them already. All of them fled perse-cution. They left their homes with just the clothes they were wearing. Otherwise, like so many of their people they would have been killed. It is not difficult to imagine the scars they have been left with mentally. Despite what they have endured they are smil-ing and positive and want to improve their English to a standard that will enable them to become self-sufficient. It is good for us to remember that at the age of a few weeks/months Jesus was taken as a refugee to Egypt by his parents for the same reason. I am delighted to say that a parishioner has purchased tickets for them so that they can attend the afternoon Summer Tea in St. Gregory’s in order to help them integrate into our community. What a beautiful gift. If you are attending this event please, please invite them to sit at your table so they can practice their English. Thank you for being willing to do this. Lastly if you know of anyone who has a bookcase or nest of tables to give away please let me know as one family would be delighted to receive them. From time to time I may ask you for other items. God, bless you. Sister Eleanor.

Parish Summer Raffle. Tickets are still available from the back of each church and from the Parish Office. So far we have sold just over 500 books, thank you very much to everyone who has bought and sold tickets. Hopefully there are more to be returned, as the Health & Safety surveys/questionnaires that we are completing on all of our parish properties are showing that money needs to be spent to maintain safety standards & comply with current legislation. There are two weekends left to sell & return as many as possible. The list of prizes is displayed at the back of each church. Please put your sold ticket stubs and cash in an envelope and place in with the collection or return to the parish office. Thank you.

St. Gregory’s Summer Tea, Sunday 12 August 2.30pm. with Parish Raffle and Tom-bola. Adults £6. Children £2. Tickets available from the church or ring 604919. Prizes for the Tombola will be much appreciated.
