On behalf of Dio Arts fundraising and main committees it is indeed a great privilege to welcome you to our glittering extravaganza under the Big Top - our own Dio Arts Fizz & Quiz 2012 Circus Show. In your circus personae as clowns, trapeze artists and wire walkers, please enjoy our amazing hospitality and outstanding entertainment, sharpen your mind on the quiz and yes, fight to become the cup holding Champion of Champions team. Plus - oh joy - we do have the most incredible retail therapy as well.

Your quiz masters (MC's) Jude Dobson and Mark Leishman (both Dio parents) will have you whipped into shape throughout our evening of fun.

Fizz & Quiz also provides an opportunity for over 80 of our students to learn new skills. Our media students, for example, have worked with Jude Dobson and the media department to make twelve short promos for each Live Auction item. These same girls are filming our TV show live tonight. Of our students, some of the best gymnasts, dancers, musicians, actors and artists are showcased tonight.

We are so proud of our arts students and staff, but they need a lot of support from Dio Arts in the form of grants and scholarships - hence our show stopper tonight. Please help us! Our top billing Live Auction item is something different. Rebecca Taylor, an expat, highly successful fashion designer working and living in New York City has given us a chance to be her intern for at least one month in New York City. This is a golden opportunity for a fashion design student to learn from someone who now dresses royalty and movie stars in a glamorous and highly competitive business. Kindly, Business World Travel has given us a return airfare to New York for the lucky winner. We are also offering fabulous trips to Bali, France and around New Zealand in luxury. We have the opportunity for a design student to gain work experience with Kiwi fashion designer Rebecca Taylor in New York. The lucky recipient will gain work experience for a minimum of one month with one of our leading expat fashion designers. The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton wears Rebecca Taylor and actress Sarah Jessica Parker is a fan of Taylor's designs. Jennifer Lopez, Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet and Uma Thurman have been reported as Rebecca Taylor customers.

The Fashion Design House of Rebecca Taylor asks that interns work at least a four-day week but five is welcome. The role will depend on the intern’s background but could be anything from going to vendors, to putting together trend information for meetings or sewing. They say that if the intern is excited to be there and can go with the flow of what needs to be done, they will be exposed to the entire process. Going over to New York around the time of runway (September and February) is always more fun.

The work experience opportunity is open to a design student who has completed a minimum of one year of tertiary education. It could also be used by a current year 13 student who intends to go to design school in 2013 and gain work experience in 2014. The internship must count towards course credits and an American J1 working visa is required.

With an MA (First Class Honours) in Political Science from the University of Auckland, Trish established one of New Zealand’s leading dealer galleries in 1984, and the Moet & Chandon New Zealand Art Foundation in 1988, which she directed for nine years. Trish Clark is Chair of Auckland City Council’s Advisory Panel for Public Art, and sits on the Trust Board of Voyager, New Zealand Maritime Museum.

Trish Clark has curated numerous public and private projects and exhibitions, and manages extensive art collections for leading corporate and private clients. She has authored a number of private books on art collections, co-edited with Alan Miller New Zealand Photographs (2010), and co-edited Professor Wystan Curnow, Pleasures and Dangers: Artists of the Nineties, Longmans, 1991.

She is the founder and director of Trish Clark Associates Ltd, based in New Zealand.

Penny Stotter graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts in 1995, majoring in graphic design. Penny initially found creative expression in the graphic design field. Working as a designer in New Zealand, Melbourne and London, she developed unique ways to combine her natural artistic flair with executional intricacies made possible by new technologies. In 2006 she won the inaugural Estuary Artworks Award. She has also been a finalist in the New Zealand Best Awards and New York Festivals awards. Penny's work in the graphic design industry has played a large part in her style of work. She uses an interesting mix of new technology and traditional methods in creating her screen prints, which are influenced by her environment and 'found' objects.

A recent collection of prints centered on the life of Rua, her junk shop doll. It is a fun and whimsical collection that she started to draw for her nieces. Penny's latest collection of fabulous works 'Precious Vessels', hold pukeko mingling with kowhai, kea alongside flax and tuis amongst pohutukawas, flora and fauna more precious even than the vases they adorn.

The objective of the Rebecca Taylor internship is to enhance the intern’s educational experience through practical work assignments and to provide insight into the running of the leading design brand, while raising funds for Dio Arts.

Eligibility

• Education: At least one year of a formally recognised fashion design course, in New Zealand or any other country. Only those students who will return to their studies upon completion of the internship and can obtain course credits for the internship are eligible;

• USA J1 Visa: The intern will be required to obtain a J1 Visa for entry into the United States, and this will be the sole responsibility of the intern. Prior to bidding on this auction item, please ensure that you are eligible for a J1 Visa.

General terms and conditions

• The internship can be taken up at a date to be arranged between the owner of the Rebecca Taylor brand, Kellwood Company (“Company”) and the intern, for a period of one month;

• The intern is required to keep confidential all information made known during his/her internship and may not publish any reports or papers on the basis of information obtained, except with the written authorisation of the Company;

• An intern undertakes to conduct himself/herself at all times in a manner compatible with his/her responsibilities as an intern, including dress code and hours of work;
