The PTA can help bridge those two groups and contribute towards a successful learning environment for the students. I enjoy being a part of the PTA and serve on the board as Secretary, Health & Safety Chair and Book Fair Chair. Before moving to Pike County, I was an Exercise Physiologist but stopped working before my oldest son was born. He is now a first-grader and my youngest son is enrolled in preschool at Milford Montessori. If I'm not volunteering for a PTA event or spending time with friends & family, you'll probably find me running around Dingmans Ferry as I train for my third half-marathon. I hope to see you at the next PTA meeting and/or event! Read on to see pictures of PTA events, reading tips, a recipe and upcoming volunteer opportunities!!

• Set aside a regular time to read to your child every day – studies show that reading out loud to your child will produce significant gains in reading comprehension and vocabulary.

• Surround your children with reading material – magazines and books that are appealing can be placed throughout the house to tempt your child.

• Have a family reading time – read silently in the same space as your child. Seeing you read will inspire your child to read.

• Encourage a wide variety of reading activities – have them read menus, game directions, weather reports, road signs, and other practical reading information.

• Develop the library habit

• Be knowledgeable about your children’s progress

• Look for reading problems

• Get help promptly for reading problems

• Use a variety of aids to help your children – textbooks, computer programs and books on tape are a few good ones.

• Show enthusiasm for your children’s reading and have fun with it!
