Digital television era in Indonesia was started in 2007 with the forming of a DTTB steering committee and working group.

Starting in 2012, Indonesia is on transition phase from analog to digital broadcasting system.

On the Roadmap for the transition from analog to digital terrestrial television broadcasting, the government plans to analog switch-off (ASO) in 2018

Trial for DTV was soft launched on Aug 13, 2008 which was followed by the grand launching on May 20, 2009. Several phases have been through after that including implementation regulations.

By end of 2014, Indonesian Broadcasting Commission - Jakarta announced that 18 private operators will start the trial of digital television broadcasting in 2015.

REGULATION BARRIERSCurrent regulations on DTV were only managed by the Ministry of Communications and Informatics. More powerful regulation is needed by all stakeholders post ASO

SOCIAL ASPECTMore channels for viewers will lead to more complicated supervision from violent content up to copy-right issues. Even with current system, some of related issues are still be one of the weaknesses within the industry.

BOOSTER FOR CREATIVE AND CONTENT INDUSTRIES As DTV provides more channels for consumer, it will lead creative industry (including advertising sector) to have more involvement in the broadcasting industry. It will also lead to more involvement of digital content providers into the broadcasting industry.

INCREASE CONSUMER SPENDING Consumer spending will increase as the impact of more advertising broadcasted and they will be led to purchase DTV units to be able to enjoy optimised image quality.
