Digital Technology

There are a number of different types of digital technologies which Ihave used to create my short horror film. I am going to talk about whattypes of technology I used and how and why it was helpful in thedevising process of creating my short film. Also I will talk about theadvantages and disadvantages of using some of these different types oftechnologies and if possible how I could of changed or improved theway I used them.

MacThe macs at school was an essential piece of digital technology I used throughout myA2 media coursework. The mac’s enabled me to complete and undergo research tasksat the beginning of my project and then later helped me to edit my short film together.Not everyone has a mac at home so therefore I could only edit my work at school,because it was impossible to take my work to and from home. However I was luckybecause most macs have an application called ‘Finial Cut Pro on them and thereforethis was the editing program I used when I edited my footage and made it in to a shortfilm. Without final cut pro, I would have had to used windows movie player, anapplication which isn’t as sophisticated and advanced when it comes down to editingeffects and the way I can put footage together. Therefore although I couldn’t take mywork home to finish editing, it was still a really good application to use and without themacs, I would have found to really hard to edit my short film and to create a film alltogether.

CamcorderI used my own camcorder, for the simple reason that I coulduse it when and where I wanted to without having to worryabout it being a school camcorder. If I used a school camera,it would have meant booking it out and giving it back withinthe same day, which would have been annoying especially ifI wanted to record late at night, which I did end up doing(filming my protagonist watching a horror film at night, so Icould get the dark atmosphere, to make it look morerealistic). Therefore this meant I could film when I wantedto without other people using it if they have booked it outfor there lesson. Therefore I knew the camcorder was mineand that I had control over when I could film.

Tripod

I decided not to use a tripod because I wanted to wanted to create ashaky effect due to my horror genre. Therefore when my protagonistwas being chased, the running action make the action look far morerealistic as though she was actually being chased. I used a tripod, myfootage would have looked controlled and professional, andalthough I was aiming for my film to look professional, I wasn’taiming for it to look at all controlled during particular parts of myshort horror film.

My Phone

My phone allowed me to easily access the internet, so I could find outinformation on the spot. Likewise, I also had a pixlr app on my phone sotherefore I could edit my poster and film review on the go or when ihad time to. It made everything easier. In addition, I took most of myimages on my phone because I didn’t want to create a clear andprofessional looking image, my intention was to make it look bitty andshaken. Therefore using my phone was a great app and I woulddefinitely use it if I completed my coursework again.
