ALL-AMERICAN LILY RAMIREZ CUT FROM FLORIDA AFTER COCAINE POSSESSION ARREST
Guest columnist Ralph Teller of 1Vigor.com explained some keys to hydration strategies for swimming, which really gave our readers something to consider as they look for every edge possible.
The recruiting news kept on rolling in as Swimming World ve-star Chase Kalisz elected to become a Georgia Bulldog upon completion of his high school career. Kalisz, who swims for North Baltimore, has three lifetime bests that would provisionally qualify him to compete at the 2012 NCAA Division I Championships.
Swimming World intern Chelsea Howard spoke with various experts in the eld of sports psychology to look at how mental toughness can be the di erence between being good and great in the sport of swimming. Eliminating negative self-talk is one trick that was discussed during the feature.
In an article that was a bit darker than is typically published by Swimming World, guest editorialist Stephanie Wishmyer wrote about how several shoulder injuries caused her to quit the sport. However, her love for the positives of the sport far outweighed the physical toll she endured, that she is still a coach with the Potomac Marlins.

In September, Florida All-American Lily Ramirez, already on an inde nite suspension for shopli ing in February, was cut from the Gators a er being arrested for alleged cocaine possession.

go faster. You have to get better at your technique. It’s the only way you’re going to get better at swimming, and that’s where I struggle.

“STRICT LIABILITY (which is a rule that has endured, not been struck down, yet almost entirely ignored) is the only fair rule. It needs to be stuck to
and used.
Yes, you can get cross-contaminated supplements. So don’t take them, duh! If you do, as the rule says,
it’s YOUR OWN RISK.
e bottom line is even if an athlete is unknowingly doping, they’re still getting that competitive advantage over their opponents. at’s why half these “supplements” on the
market keep customers coming back--because they know what they’re putting in there, and it ain’t the “proprietary blend” on the ingredients label.” – Motorola_Man
(IOC Rule 45 Struck Down by Court of Arbitration for Sport; Door Left Open for IOC
to Try Again -- October 6, 2011)
“Inga Elín Cryer set a new Icelandic national record in the 400 freestyle, with a time of 4:15.13, qualifying her for the European Short Course Championships in December. Reason enough to arrange
this meet :-)” – Rokur I Jakupsstovu
“ is is pretty awesome... for such small, remote countries, they post some pretty
fast times.” - SJT
(Iceland Downs Faroe Islands, 99-81, in Short Course Meter Dual Meet --
October 8, 2011)
“While this could solve the length-of-meet issue, the real issue at hand will be
the state of the warmup pool. I was at the meet in 2008, when there were around
1400 swimmers total and it was at times very di cult to get the proper warmup in. In 2012, I wouldn’t be surprised to see over 2000 swimmers. In the same
warmup con guration. is promises to be a nightmare for myself and the other swimmers who need to be up and ready
for multiple events.”– Russell Payne
