A WORD OF WELCOME

Welcome to Torfaen’s first Digital Enterprise Festival.This two day event celebrates our ambition tobecome the digitally connected green businessgateway to Wales; a place shaped by its heritagewhich inspires opportunity and innovation.

Blaenavon, widely recognised as one of thepioneering centres of the Industrial Revolution, isnow leading the way in the digital arena. For the twodays of this Festival, the town will host a series ofdigitally focused events aimed at businesses,residents and community groups across South Wales.The Festival is a celebration of the growing numberof digital partnerships in the County Borough,including Wales’ flagship data centre, SRS.

As part of Torfaen County Borough Council’scontinuing commitment to developing the economicfortunes of the area, I am also pleased to announcethe launch of our Torfaen Economy and EnterpriseStrategy. At its heart, this strategy embraces theopportunities provided by emerging technologies tohelp develop entrepreneurship and prosperity forTorfaen residents and businesses alike.

This annual SENT event is a key part of Torfaen’s first Digital Enterprise Festival.This is the largest event held for the social enterprise sector within the borough. This year, JohnBennett will be our speaker; local social enterprises will be presenting case studies, as well as freetraining workshops and an opportunity to meet key business support organisations and funders.

As well as opportunities to network with like-minded businesses, members of Torfaen’s local businessclub, Torfaen Business Voice, will be able to enjoy a tour of the attraction and hear from expertspeakers from DEHOV Digital Economy Heads of the Valleys programme on how social media can beused to best effect within the marketing and communications mix for SME’s.
