PROTOCOLS –BROADBAND

What is Broadband? A high capacity transmission using a wide range of frequencies

How do we use it? We use Broadband to connect to the internet

3G/ 4G

What is 3G? 3G is a mobile communications standard that allows mobile phones, computers, and other portable electronic devices to access the Internet wirelessly (https://www.google.co.uk/#q=what+is+3g)

What is 4G? 4G is the fourth generation of wireless technology on mobile phones. It is faster and more accurate than 3G

How do we use it? It allows us to connect to the Internet, via mobile phone

METHODS – EMAIL

What is an email? An email distributes a message from one device (computer/ mobile phone) to another via network

How do we use it? We use it by sending messages to one another, via a chosen network

IM

What is an IM? An IM is an ‘Instant Message’ – A message sent via the Internet that appears on the recipient’s screen as soon as it is transmitted (https://www.google.co.uk/#q=what+is+an+instant+message)

How do we use it? We use it by sending/ receiving messages in real time, to one another

SMS & MMS

What is SMS? SMS stands for ‘Short Message Service’ – It is a standard way to send messages with multi-media content

What is MMS? MMS stands for ‘Multi-Media Service’ - Again, this is a standard way to send messages with multi-media content

How do we use it? We use it by allowing the exchange of messages greater than a certain amount of characters

BLOGS

What is a Blog? A blog is a regularly updated website typically run by an individual

How do we use it? It allows us to express personal thoughts and feelings

WIKIS

What is WIKI? A wiki is a database created by a community of users who have the ability to edit information

How do we use it? It allows people to read information, and edit if needed

CHAT GROUPS

What is a chat group? A chat group is a service that provides users the ability to talk in ‘real time’

How do we use it? We use it in order to add other sites/ apps (Facebook, Instagram)

What is WWW? The World Wide Web How do we use it? We use it as the start of a web address

What is Web 3.0? Web 3.0 is the evolution of the web as an extension of Web 2.0

How do we use it? We use it by having the ability to interact with the Web
