DigiSender® Digital AEI Security & Communications Limited, the company that owns and operates the DigiSender brand of wireless video senders is proud to announce the launch of their all new, 100% digital wireless video sender series featuring XD Spread Spectrum Technology and named DigiSender XD. This unique video sender technology eliminates the interfer- ence problems associated with traditional analogue based video senders. Shawn Downey, the companies Technical Director explains, “Spread spectrum technology works in a similar way to Wireless LAN. The data, in this case audio and video, travels across multiple carriers (frequencies) from the transmitter to the receiver. If other wireless devices such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth are using some of these carriers, our tech- nology is able to transfer the data to unused carriers and even buffer data until more carriers become available. Analogue video senders and unable to manage their data in this way and are susceptible to interference from such products includ- ing some household appliances such as microwave ovens.” Flawless Remote Relay Remote relay is a traditional function built in to every Di- giSender as standard. It allows the consumer to control their source device such as their satellite receiver whilst they watch the transmitted signal say, in their bedroom. AEI pioneered this technology in 1994 achieving compatibility with awkward IrDA commands such as those used by Cable TV operators in the United Kingdom and Holland and this remains a key and exclusive feature to the companies high end analogue models. But because this technology uses separate electronic circuitry for the remote relay functions it caused problems for some consumers. The company admit that it has been difficult to transmit audio and video in one direction on a 2.4Ghz or 5.8Ghz carrier and remote signals on another at 433.92Mhz. The physics of getting both to operate at near or similar ranges has been tough because separate frequencies respond in different ways dependent of the various surroundings in a customers home. However, this new spread spectrum technol- ogy is a two way protocol and remote relay commands are embedded within the spread spectrum carriers. This means quite simply that once the customer has a perfect picture they are guaranteed a perfect remote control relay function, the significance of which should not be under estimated in terms of customer satisfaction. Rock Solid Performance The overall result is extended range providing full home coverage in a typical large 5 bedroom home and thus virtually eliminating all aspects of customer dissatisfaction accredited traditionally with analogue senders. The entire XD range will continue to grow and include the unique set-up features that aford the installer an easy installation such as on-screen video signal level and error rate reporting, Richard Martin, the company’s Linux Software Development Engineer stated, “Linux is the base of this new technology and provides us with tremendous flexibility as well as an unsurpassed degree of data integrity. We are able to offer a host of on-screen diagnostics that help the consumer better understand the technology they are operating and how to better optimise the performance of their DigiSender with on-screen signal level indications and error checking func- tions. For us, this is an ongoing development programme and I have been releasing updated versions of software at regular intervals during the development phase and will continue to add additional software features on a regular basis”. The DigiSender® XDSMA provides a long range fully digital solution transmitting up to 2000m (clear line of sight) and is suitable for use with most set top box equipment and CCTV cameras.
For set top box applications, SCART based inputs and outputs will allow connection to a huge variety of audio/video sources and the built-in remote relay function allows you to control your channels from the receiving location.
