Digipak Analysis

For my Media production, my group will be focusing on rock/pop. Due to this I shall analyse digipaks that relate to the same sort of genre as my targeted genre and audience. This will help my group and me by suggesting such things as colour schemes and text fonts etc. When it comes to creating our own later in the year.

The cover is by far the most eye catching and colourfully attractive part to this digipak as it is an extreme close up of an eye that is coloured in the same scheme to it a relation to the band however it being a human eye gives it something for the consumer to relate to.

The rest of the album seems to be dominantly black and white to maybe keep the feel that the genre of this album is not one that is all out going with happy and flamboyant lyrics but are seen to have sometimes a darker and more emotional meaning.

There is a side to the digipak that is entitled “meet the Band” which gives some information on Band members such as how long they have been in the band and how passionate they are for the songs they create and who creates them, this gives the ideas that for my own digipak I could create a side that allows my group to give a little information about ourselves to help the audience get a better understanding of what we are like and our roles in the group.

No side is any lighter of colourful than the other giving the sense that they stick to their ideas of emotional songs and wont do anything to disappoint their fans and stray away from their relevant genre.

The panel that lists their songs also holds icons for Facebook and twitter suggesting that there are other ways to contact and interact with the band through social media websites which gives them even more of a social feel added on top of the “meet the Band” panel, this is another idea that we could use, we could possible set up a page or account that allowed questions to be asked directly to use about our product but also allow us to get feedback from our tutors.

The disk cover features the tiger themed eye shown on the front of the cover to again relate to the band and show that this is the most important part of the album along with the main cover that is used to attract the audience and consumers. Also the font used on both the main cover and disc is relatively similar to that, which you’d expect to see in American shows and musicals because it is related to being successful and a musical success.

There is also an “about the band” page that allows us to get an insight on the band itself and does not give us information about the band members individually but instead tells us about when they formed, where they are based and how they are known etc. This has a strong possibility of featuring on my groups album as it is simple however gives the audience insight into the band they are listening to.
