Like most albums and artists Rihanna has her name on the cover letting officiating that the album is by her. Looking at the digipak audiences can guess what her music genre is without having have listened to her music first hand. This is the way she styles herself as an artist and wants to see others to see her.

The main image is a full blown picture of Rihanna, connotating that she is of very high importance. Her not looking at the camera gives the sense of vulnerability. Her head tilting down slightly implies that she’s in deep thought. Her eyes being closed my also represent a secret she’s keeping, which people would discover once they listened to her album.

A narrative is played through the digipak. Her body language and facial expression imply a sense of fear and fury.

There is no texts in this digipak; the images speak for themselves. This album allows the audience to make up their own minds of whether or not to buy the album. No persuasive language is used to manipulate the audience into buying the album. The images themselves are used to entice the audience into buying the album, by telling a story through imagery and position.

In Rihanna’s past digipaks she doesn’t show off her hair as much as she does in this one. Her bold hair refers to the albums name ‘LOUD’. This digipak differs from her older digipaks as she’s adapted a new look, connotation a new chapter in her life/music. Her hair colour and fashion created a worldwide trend that her fans would adapt with their own fashion choices.

Rihanna has closed eyes connotating she has a secret she could be keeping and the audience might discover what that secret is if they listen to her album.

A narrative is played through this digipak. In the large image of the artist her body language and facial expression suggests a sense of worry or anger. The overall theme of this digipak is love/lust, this may be because of her over publicised lifestyle.

The roses surrounding her gives her a sense of innocence when really when and if the audience listen to her album they would class it as inappropriate.

Reminiscent of an old circus poster.

Angle of her face is directed down to connote vulnerability.

The gold circus tent ‘Circus’, however the colour gold could perhaps represent the wealth and success of the artist.

The material of the dress silk/chiffon representing femininity and innocence which is a symbolism of a ballerina.

The album name suggests the album will be entertaining and lively. However, a negative connotation for ‘circus’ can connotate her life being similar to a circus show, an indication that her life is public.

The colour red has connotations of both danger and sexual undertones.

Light make-up around her face, connotating ppurity and natural beauty. However, the dark make-up around her eyes connotates something deeper within herself.

Pale pink connotates femininity and innocence.

The songs on the top of the CD connotate that they are significant and will be highly rated.

The conventional poster colours are being illustrated, connotating the title ‘Circus’.

The birthday cake symbolises that the album is a celebration and the re-birth of her music.

The clown reflects the title ‘Circus’.

The thick red border around the image is like a frame, symbolising that her album is like a shot of her life.

Gold pillow and decorations around the room coonotatingroyalty and riches.

Britney’s alluring leg is seductive, perhaps connotating the songs a slightly sexual.

The cowboy boots reflect her southern American background (Louisiana). This connotatesthat her album has a bit of her nationality embedded into it.

Track list written in a bright red colour to stand out but contrast against the bubble gum pink clouds and the pale blue sky. The writing colour is typical of the pop genre and allows the house style to flow through further.

It is typical of pop genre products to have various images of the actual artist to promote their work. Katy Perry is also considered to a an attractive female and therefore this creates a wider fan base and makes more people want to buy her album. In addition the various images connotate that by buying the album the audience is buying into her lifestyle.

The CD reflects the style of Katy Perry’s California Girls video to promote her single. The white and red swirls relate to the lolly pop shown in the video, showing intertextual reference.

The crown being warn represents that she is the queen of pop.

The image of her naked and covered in clouds widens her fan base as it’s an attraction to males as well as the music for the females.

Voyeurism is used on the front of the digipak to attract buyers. They will recognise the picture from the music video. This will be used as the front cover to increase sales of the digipakalbum.
