1. Album Cover Analysis:Sonic Youth The Eternal - When looking for ideas tocome up with my own Digi-Pak design, I decided thebest option would be to look at other artist covers whichhave a similar style of music to the song I have chosen.So by typing in alternative album covers, the first onethat caught my eye was this one by Sonic Youth. Itimmediately reminded me of one of the first shots Ifilmed, which was of blood that was dripping into thesink hole in a circle. It is one of my favourite screengrabs because the deep red contrasting against thewhiteness of the sink makes it look more vibrant andshocking. As well as this I feel like it makes the viewerquestion what it means, why it is there and whose bloodit is. I feel like this album cover does the same, inchallenging those questions. The other aspects that I likeabout it is the red mass, has been painted on, whichgives it more texture, as well as deeper reds andcrimsons being used, which gives it a 3-d effect. Using white on the side, helps to give contrast and adds apink colour into the mix creating even more depth. The fact that the in the left hand corner there is asignature of who created the art work, shows it is something of personal significance to the band. It couldrepresentative of a deep emotion or mood, due to the colours, shape and messy brush strokes. I also likethe two block lines at the top and bottom of the cover which again has the band name and song printed onin white in contrast. This reminds me of when you go to watch a film at the cinema and it shown as a stripacross the middle. Again this could be representative of a moment in the bands life that may have feltsurreal. I think if I were to use the shot similar to this in my Digi-Pak I would put it where the CD is meant tobe placed, because it is a circular shape.Nautical Mile Chasing Shadows - This was the secondalbum cover that I found. The first thing that caught myeye about this, was the fact that shown from a point ofview shot, and with the side and tiles going into the backwall which gives a 3-d effect, like you can fall into thepicture and be there. The hygiene and layout of thebathroom displayed on the cover is quite grimy and grittywith dirty tiles and debris on the floor, which I likebecause it could be reflective of the music this bandplays. As my music video is quite gritty I would like todisplay something similar or disturbing like this on myDigi-Pak like a subliminal message. It also shows a lack ofneglect
